I've been working with Klaviyo for over 5 years. Here's what I wish I knew when I startedโ€ฆ

Take a breath. You've got this. If you managed to figure out running an e-commerce business, you can definitely get the hang of this!

Right at the beginning, when I was trying to fathom why there were all these profiles there and none of them were on a list. They were subscribed in Shopify, the account was integrated with Shopify, and all the profiles were there, but the lists were empty. ๐Ÿค” (Spoiler: I had to import them into a list. It didn't happen by magic. Seems simple now, but my mind was boggled back then!)

Connect your store and start tracking data even if you haven't got time to set it all up yet. If there's a native integration for your old email provider, integrate that too. You'll see all the data in one place.

Add your fonts & colours, then include blocks like hero image, headings, body copy, buttons, product blocks, and footer (use universal blocks!). Be sure to check how it looks on mobile. Tip: Duplicate it and edit for topic-specific templates.

Need to change FREE SHIPPING OVER ยฃ50 to ยฃ60? Update the universal block, and all your flow emails will update like magic.

I learnt this the hard way. Going through every. Single. Email is painful. ๐Ÿคฏ

'Abandoned cart' or 'Abandoned Checkout'? Klaviyo's naming convention is a bit confusing!

Their 'abandoned cart' flow is triggered by an abandoned checkout. It's a common problem I uncover when I'm auditing a Klaviyo account.

A true abandoned cart flow is triggered when a web visitor adds an item to their cart... they receive a flow email if they leave without starting to checkout.

The abandoned checkout flow is triggered when someone starts checkout .. they receive a flow email if they don't go on to purchase.

Many brands have the abandoned checkout flow running, maybe a browse abandonment but often no abandoned cart flow.

This is a great flow to have running in your flow stack as there is a higher intent to purchase (compared to a browse abandonment).

To set up the abandoned cart flow, you need to add a piece of code to your website to track the added-to-cart event.

It can be a bit fiddly depending on how your add-to-cart button is coded into your website. But don't let this put you off!

Once up and running, the 'Abandoned Cart' flow is a powerful tool to recover extra sales and boost your conversion rates. ๐Ÿš€

What do you think of the new re-design of Klaviyo profile pages?

To begin with, I kept clicking back to the old version for ease and speed. But that option disappears today!

Now Iโ€™ve had a look around and can see it has a little more functionality.
From each profile page, you can now

โ€ข suppress and unsubscribe profiles
โ€ข Add profiles to a list

And it's a bit more mobile-friendly, which is currently lacking in the Klaviyo interface.
