Imposter’s syndrome and how to deal with it.
I read the post from Kristina Azarenko and Nick Jordan’s reply and reflect on my own situation.
I have a quite successful Freelance SEO/PPC consultancy business. I have increased my clients from 4 to 8 in a year and almost doubled my revenue but I always doubt my capability in one way or another.
Last month, I lose two clients and one decided to reduce its retainer by 50% and it made me feel almost like a failure.
And I get to Kristina’s post: The two clients I lost were my lowest retainers, and one of them was seriously going beyond the scope all the time. The typical case of the client that wants the moon but paid peanuts.
My mental health has improved since I lost that client but the imposter’s syndrome is always there telling you “You’re not good enough” “You should look for an agency” and more doubts in your head.
Nick Jordan mentioned three important points in his reply to Kristina
1. You don't have unlimited capacity
2. You're being underpaid what you're worth
3. You need to level up ASAP to bigger budgets to meet your financial goals
Most of my clients have limited budgets but I am working my socks off to get to a stage where I can scale those clients or get bigger ones.
It’s not an easy process and you need to work hard for it. But you can do it.
How you can deal with your imposter’s syndrome:
Don’t overthink
Remember that everything will fall into place
Working hard and referral will come
Build your portfolio (that’s what I am doing at the moment)
Love yourself (Belief in yourself)
Drink loads of coffee :)
Any other points to add?
