In this episode Katie is joined by Ali, the CEO of Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, the only charity in the UK that focuses on improving survival rates for people with pancreatic cancer.
Only 7.3% of pancreatic cancer patients in the UK will survive 5 years after their diagnosis and in some areas of Wales, that number is as low as 3%. The 1-year survival rate for people in Swansea Bay is 21.5%. The 5-year survival rate is 3.8%. Though students may not think they are at risk, sadly they are. Pancreatic cancer does not discriminate when it comes to age and it can affect anyone at any stage in their life.

This epsiode coincides with the pancreatic cancer awareness campaign in Wales this June to try and improve these figures but we need your help in spreading the word. Share this podcast far and wide with your friends as you never know who you may help.

After months of work reviewing, researching and creating the revised Swansea University Students' Union's Sustainability Policy alongside colleagues Georgia-Rose Gleeson, Minkesh Sood, and Geri Smits, I'm glad to see it finally being implemented as an active policy.

The main changes to the policy include:
- Focussing on headline policy objectives around Carbon Emissions, Waste & Recycling, Sustainable Procurement and Sourcing, Travel & Transport, Reducing Environmental impact of our Events, and Sustainability through Education.
- Setting medium and long-term goals and targets.
- Removing mundane definitions from the main policy document.
- Moving the implementation and operational aspects of the policy to appendices.

I'm excited to begin work developing and implementing a Sustainability Action Plan (SAP) to compliment this Policy and support the achievement of its objectives. I will be working towards some of my manifesto points as President including the launch of a Union annual Climate Summit to gather views of students on how we should be driving the sustainability agenda at the university and within our SU and will also establish a student led Sustainability Committee that will meet each term.
