Every time a new issue lands, I have a little moment.

Not because it’s finished (although that’s always a relief!) but because I know just how many people have helped bring it to life.

The Swansea Edit may be a family-run magazine created by a two-person team, but every issue is filled with the expertise, stories and contributions of some truly brilliant people. Our contributors generously share their knowledge, local businesses trust us with their stories, and our readers continue to support what we’re building.

Most importantly, a huge thank you to our advertising partners. Their support allows us to bring this magazine to Swansea completely free of charge. That support is invaluable, and we never take it for granted.

We are growing, evolving and always looking at ways to improve, but at the heart of it all is the same simple aim: to create something Swansea can feel proud of.

This issue is packed with local stories, inspiring people, practical advice, great food, community news and everything that makes Swansea such a special place to call home.

I’m incredibly proud of what we’ve created together.

Thank you for reading, thank you for sharing, and thank you for being part of it.

For me, it’s always the people.

Swansea has this way about it. We can laugh at ourselves, talk to anyone, make a joke out of almost anything, and somehow turn the most ordinary moments into something memorable.

It’s the humour, the characters, the conversations in queues, the people who know your aunty, your school, your street, or someone you once worked with your Nan in 1998.

It’s one of the reasons I started this magazine; I love meeting and celebrating the people who make Swansea what it is.

So tell me, what do you think is the most underrated thing about Swansea?

They’re all good. That’s the point.

Swansea is full of brilliant businesses doing brilliant things, but sometimes the difference between being chosen and being missed is whether people saw you at the right moment, in the right place, and in a way that made them remember you.

That’s what The Swansea Edit gives businesses across Swansea and South Wales: the chance to sit alongside the stories, people and places our readers already care about, and to be seen in a magazine that feels considered, local and worth spending time with.

The next issue is now being planned, and there are a small number of advertising spaces available for businesses who feel ready to stand out.

After years of building communities, running businesses and publishing a magazine, I’ve realised that the things that matter most aren’t always the things we see online.

Some of the best opportunities I’ve had have come from a conversation over coffee, an introduction from someone who believed in what we were doing, or a relationship that continued long after the original piece of business was done.

I still believe you can support other people and be successful yourself.

I still believe that reputation matters.

I still believe that community works.

And I still believe that being original is far more powerful than trying to be like everyone else.

I’d genuinely love to know yours.

What’s something you’ve learned from running a business that still rings true today?

Before the turnstiles opened, supporters were already gathered outside Swansea.com Stadium, waiting for the team buses to arrive.

Children hoped for a selfie, a smile, a moment with their heroes.

Then the players stepped off the buses wearing T-shirts carrying a simple but powerful message:

Kids Get Cancer Too.

That message became the heartbeat of the day.

There was football, familiar faces and legends of Welsh football alongside players from across Europe, joined by personalities from sport, television and entertainment. There was music, laughter and plenty of unforgettable moments.

But this was always about something bigger.

It was about the children and families at the heart of Joseph’s Smile.

One of the things that stayed with me most was watching Emma and Katy throughout the day. Whether speaking with families, greeting supporters, coordinating players, helping the media or thanking sponsors, they moved seamlessly from one conversation to the next, always with warmth, grace and seemingly endless energy.

It is easy to see the event. It is much harder to see the months of work, dedication and determination that make a day like this possible.

Joseph’s Smile is doing extraordinary work, and Emma, Katy and their wider team should be immensely proud of what they continue to achieve.

Most of all, the day was a reminder of what can happen when a community comes together behind a cause that matters.

In Swansea and across South Wales, we show up for one another.

Yesterday was a powerful example of that.
