As a roofer i'd rather be on the tools than sat behind a computer trying to work out google and websites, but i knew we were missing out by not showing up properly. Came across these guys earlier in the year from an ad when I needed a hand with my Google profile. Ended up getting them to do my new website as well and I’m glad I did.Sky kept me updated the whole way through and sorted any changes I asked for without making it a headache. I’m not great with the tech side of things, so that was the bit I was worried about, but she just dealt with it all.Really happy with how it’s turned out and would definitely recommend them.

I've been driving an automatic for a while now.

They're lovely things.

No gears.
No fuss.

You just point it where you want to go and off you trot.

Then last week we borrowed a manual.

And it turns out... I'm not as clever as I thought I was.

Yesterday I stalled it pulling out of a junction. This morning I tried to change gear in the automatic.

Then I pressed the brake with my left foot and nearly folded the car in half. Honestly it looked like I'd driven into a wall that wasn't there.

It's chaos.

The problem isn't that I can't drive either car.

It's that I'm switching between two systems with two different rules and my brain is just... guessing.

That's how most businesses look online.

Your website says ring this number.
Facebook says ring another.
Checkatrade's got one from three phones ago.
Yell's got your nan's landline from 2006.

And Google? They've just made one up at this point.

Your customers are basically playing bingo with your details.

Different names.
Different logos.
Different numbers.

To you, it makes sense but to Google and your customers, It's like me trying to find third gear in an automatic. Confusing...

And when things get confusing, people hesitate. Or worse... they go somewhere else.

Most customers are on autopilot.

They're not analysing your business like a detective.

They just want it to be easy. Clear. Consistent. Obvious.

A bit like an automatic, really.

Set it up right and everything just... works.

I'm just finishing up my first week at Ryan Does Marketing.

I think it's only fair I give a few observations while it's all still fresh.

I've got 8 of them so here goes...

𝟭. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗶𝘀𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴.
It's called Ryan Does Marketing, but Ryan mainly does everything but marketing. The irony isn't lost on me.

𝟮. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗼𝘂𝘁𝗯𝘂𝗿𝘀𝘁𝘀.
Ryan has ADHD and the whole office knows about it. Not because he told us. Because every 15 minutes there's a random eruption. BANG. Full volume. No warning. It's like working next to a human notification you can't mute.

𝟯. 𝗛𝗮𝗿𝗿𝘆'𝘀 𝗹𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗵.
About as dry as his banter. The man brought plain rice in a Tupperware and nobody questioned it. I have questions.

𝟰. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗲𝗹𝘀𝗶𝘂𝘀 𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘂𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.
Out of control. We've got crates of the stuff. If you want Celsius then Ryan's the plug.

𝟱. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗽𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗳𝘆 𝗝𝗮𝗺.
Tragic before I arrived. I'm not saying I saved it. But the playlist went from funeral to festival in about 3 minutes and nobody's denied it.

𝟲. 𝗛𝗮𝗿𝗿𝘆.
Been here ages, apparently. He doesn't rush. He doesn't stress. Comes in, does his thing and goes home. I genuinely thought he was part of the furniture for the first two days. Then he spoke. Then went back to being furniture.

𝟳. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗧𝗶𝗸𝗧𝗼𝗸 𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗹𝘀.
When Ryan decides everyone needs to see last night's saved reels, all productivity leaves the building. Full 25-minute hostage situation. No one is safe.

𝟴. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗮 𝗿𝘂𝗻.
He does a Costa run every single morning like it's a religious obligation. No debate. One small problem. I don't like coffee. He looked so happy handing me that cup on Monday that I just took it. Smiled. Said thank you. And now I'm five days deep into a lie I can't get out of. So Ryan... if you're reading this... surprise!!

He also says we should always over deliver. So consider this one a freebie.

𝟵. 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝗜'𝗺 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲.
There's a secret project. Can't say what. Can't say when. He's had me sign a MOT. Or a DNA. Or PPI. Or an STD. Something like that. NDA? One of those. Either way it's legally binding and I'm choosing not to test it.

If you're a local business... keep your eyes peeled. Something good is coming.

Underneath all the noise, the rice, the caffeine and the chaos...

There's something very smart going on here.

Funny how that works.

Right. Back to pretending I know what I'm doing 👊
