Do you really need your work emails on your phone?

I would recommend taking your work emails off your phone.

There is rarely anything that can't wait until the next day once you've left work - and if there is then someone will call you.

It's hard enough these days to get a good work-life balance without carrying work with you wherever you go.

You'll get a lot more enjoyment out of your work (and you'll be more productive and passionate about your work) if you prioritise your personal wellbeing alongside your work.

There's a work emergency...what do you do?

Do you call the person that you need to get hold of or you do email them?

Over the past few days, I've been sharing a few tips on how to effectively manage your inbox at work.

Tip #3 is that 'they'll call if it's an emergency.'

My rule of thumb is that if someone needs you urgently, they are more likely to call you directly instead of sending an email.

Give yourself a break from being attached to your emails. Check them three times a day and close them down in between - that's the winning formula in my opinion.

Plus...from personal experience, when a colleague hasn't been able to reach me right away, they've managed to find an alternative solution to their challenge without needing my input (so it can work in your favour to not be reachable 24/7.)

Do you keep your emails open throughout the workday? 🤔

Perhaps you even have your notifications on loud so you hear a ping 🔔 every time a new email lands in your inbox?

Your emails are no different from social media in this respect.

When you hear that ping 🔔, it's almost impossible not to check who's emailed you - but have you ever wondered how this might be affecting your focus and productivity?

A new email can be a simple FYI. Other times, it's someone asking you to complete a task, and from time to time you even might receive an email that angers or upsets you.

Either way, turning to your emails in the middle of completing a task is going to disturb your workflow.

I recommend checking your emails first thing in the morning, just after lunch, and at the end of the day. BUT....turn it off in between these times.

That way you can reply to your colleagues in a timely manner and still have decent time periods without distraction to focus on your work.

Are you disciplined with your emails at work?

How many emails???

Email is an important method of communication in the workplace but if not managed correctly, you can waste hours of your day being distracted by non-urgent messages and enquiries.

The Eisenhower Matrix is a great way to determine what to do with each email that lands in your inbox.

➡️Urgent & important emails can be transferred directly to your task list and actioned that day

➡️ Non-urgent but important tasks can be transferred to a folder in your inbox to refer back to over the next few days when you have time

➡️Urgent but not important emails can be forwarded to another team member

➡️Not urgent and not important emails can usually be read then deleted

Have you ever been in the middle of doing a task and wondered why you're doing it? Or what the benefits of doing this task really are?

With any job, once you get into a routine of carrying out your regular tasks, it's easy to complete them week on week, without questioning their effectiveness. After all, you wouldn't have started doing them if they weren't necessary right?

This is true, but in reality - as your business grows, your priorities will likely change; meaning that some tasks may no longer be relevant or useful to carry out.

This is why continuously reviewing your marketing tasks is key to successful time management.

Prioritise your workload - how to manage your marketing tasks tip #3

We're all guilty of choosing to do the simplest/most fun task first (even if it's not the most urgent) right?

It's an easy trap to fall into. But if you want to manage your marketing tasks better, pioritising your workload based on what's important, as opposed to what you enjoy more is key.

How often do you eat your frog?

Are you ready to take control of your marketing?

Marketing can feel overwhelming at times - there are so many ways to market your business and without the right strategy, a lot of time, energy, and resources can be spent without achieving the results you'd hoped for.

We believe that the key to successfully marketing any business, first and foremost, is to consistently implement the 10 pillars of fundamental marketing - ie. the non-negotiables.

Marketing is all about showing up consistently and being there when your customers need you most. Whether that's through their inbox, their social news feeds, or in their local magazine and newspapers - this is how you're going to generate a continuous stream of new leads.

But being consistent doesn't mean spending hours a week on your marketing. In fact, a large part of the marketing fundamentals can be systemised and automated, meaning that you may only need to spend a few hours a week (depending on your business) implementing the fundamentals to keep your business at the forefront of your customer's minds.

You can find out more about the 10 pillars of fundamental marketing by downloading our FREE marketing starter kit here: https://www.hattmarketing.co.uk/free-starter-kit.

I love this part of course creation!

When creating a new course, I like to think about the experiences that I had when first starting out in business.

When researching how to create a website, I came across a lot of information about building a website in Wordpress or Wix, but I struggled to find an A-Z guide if you will.

That’s why I’m creating a course that explains everything from how to purchase a domain name and set up web hosting to how to optimise a website and increase traffic.

In this course, I’ll be teaching you website creation tips that you only really learn from experiencing it first hand, but with a guide to doing it mistake free to save you time and money.

The course will be packed full of practical tips, resources, templates, demos and website hacks.

I believe that we can all learn from each other’s experiences and fast track our own progress based on what we’ve learnt, so I hope you do just that with this course.

Filming starts next week so keep an eye out for more details!

*PS - you can create a high performing website without any tech skills and I’ll show you how inside!
