A BIG IDEA… FOR THE SMALLEST STUDIO

So we’ve had a LOT of fun working with the lovely Sandra Cumani these last few months, helping her to not just transform her business, but create a completely new one. Her inspiring story is best told in her own words…

“After 27 years of “Photoservice,” and over 10 years of being left alone after my husband passed away, running a photography shop is getting harder and harder these days. Not only for me but for all my colleagues. The pandemic has shifted everyone to online shopping, and small village shops like mine have had to deal with the reality of an increasingly complicated market.

I stopped at a crossroad: continue as usual, hoping that things will improve, or bring a drastic change, a complete renovation, a completely new idea. At my tender age of 57, these choices aren't easy and there have been several sleepless nights! Some will call me crazy, but I am convinced that those who do not risk do not succeed, and this idea has excited me to the point that in two weeks I closed Photoservice and I am ready to reopen with a new identity, and a new kind of service.

Mini Mini Studio wants to bring quality photo portraits to the heart of our community. Only babies and children, a very small studio set, a minimalist but highly professional approach (I don’t lack experience!), and beautiful prints that will stay in your and your children's lives forever. What could be better?”

Bringing Sandra’s tiny studio to life and seeing her first shoots of satisfied customers has been a real privilege. Her story has inspired local businesses, thrilled local children (who can become ‘window portrait star of the month’) and demonstrated how having the smallest studio space in the world doesn’t have to be a disadvantage. We wish her (and her elephants!) all the luck in the world with her new venture, and hope that sharing her story encourages other creatives to look at how weaknesses can be turned into strengths. 🌸😊🐘

STORY SO FAR…

Ok, we've been *terrible* on social media. What can we say? There's just the two of us and it turns out launching a new design agency in the middle of a global pandemic is trickier than we thought.

But we’ve been lucky to work with many inspiring creatives and have a stash of projects in progress we can’t wait to share, but in the meantime, here's a some highlights from our first 18 months…

INSPIRATION
Fotografie am Bauhaus edited by Jeannine Fiedler

As second-hand and rare book addicts, .costa and I are seldom happier than when we come across an obscure treasure like this: a German language collection of Bauhaus photography. There have been some great books published over the last few years celebrating the 100 year anniversary of Bauhaus, but this huge 1990 edition is staggeringly comprehensive and inspiring.

DESIGN INSPIRATION
Eye magazine

A bit late sharing this but issue 101 of is really special even by their own high standards. Highlights (for me) include a huge Mario Eskenazi reputation piece (“I am a cross between a psychoanalyst and a plastic surgeon…”), 10 projects by the always inspiring Jim Sutherland, a drop-dead gorgeous Pantone copper and hot pink layout celebrating the career of Anette Lenz, plus too much else to mention… a really spectacular issue from editor John L. Walters, art director Simon Esterson and the team

SIZE MATTERS

magazine printing quality is amazing 😍 We designed a promotional magazine for to share with clients, and went for the Maxi available size which is an ENORMOUS 9.8×12.7″ 25×35cm with thick 200gr paper, perfect binding and custom print run so we could order the exact amount Valeria needed.

We seriously can’t think of a better way to impress your clients than turning off your laptop and putting this in their hands… bespoke magazines are the ultimate brand identity calling card for professional photographers.
