For us, it's about nostalgia and the way memories and stories can play tricks on you. Like how many of your memories have others' accounts woven through them, and you've unconsciously adopted these as your own? Once a story is shared, is it now yours to tell? How will you tell it differently, without even realising? Where do the stories go once they're told?

Apparently, stories are remembered up to 22 times more than facts alone.

This was supposed to be a post about our branding for LAAF 2023 but it looks like we've fallen down a hole of memories, folklore, and maybe now need to put some trash tv on. We approached this branding project intuitively and instinctively, and we're lucky that gave us the free reign to do this 🙌🏾

For us, it's about nostalgia and the way memories and stories can play tricks on you. Grain, gradients, your gedo's newspaper, faded in the sun.

It can only by our branding for this year's Liverpool Arab Arts Festival (25 years old!)

Impactful and unexpectedly delicate, we drew from ideas surrounding this year's theme of Hekayat/stories and landed on the temporary beauty of classic film posters that emulate the texture and pacing of a story.

Posters, socials, banners, a concertina leaflet. With a coloured screen wash and floaty gradients anchored by bold typography and geometric shapes from islamic art, it's just so friggin romantic, don't you think?

Catch an event this week as LAAF 2023 is on until the 16th July. What a time to be alive 🧿

Food. Arts. Culture. ✌🏾

Today we’re celebrating community heroes like Raph. We met at his spot in Ardwick, got to talking about social issues and representation (our favourite topics, honestly) and found that our views were aligned on pretty much everything. So natch, we were all yesses when he asked us to brand his new concept . Its ethos is rooted in equal representation and a platform for emerging artists - plus an INSANE food offering.

Having founded the amazing food and culture hub that is (it's plant-based but before you cry about it, just put your preconceptions in the bin and try what is possibly the best Caribbean food in Manchester), Raph wanted to bring the same community arts and culture vibes to NQ. Watch this space for more info on this project and in the meantime, enjoy this branding. We can’t wait to see this one IRL!

This month we’re crying for y2k to make room (pls enough) for the warm-hues, typography that’s ridiculously easy on the eye, and super-satisfying spacing of the 70s supermarket aesthetic. You are so very welcome! 🤠

We’re ending a very weird week for us BTS with a very, very special piece of work we’ve just done for the amazing 🧿🙌🏾❤️🇪🇬

Beautiful, impactful art that makes a statement - we go on about the importance of ethos and ‘not working with arseholes’ all the time but this is the stuff that reminds us why we decided to leave our 9-5s and start S+S.

LAAF’s commitment to representation and providing a platform for global majority artists and activists is as refreshing as it is authentic, and this podcast series on Egypt and the Climate Crisis hits home now more than ever, with COP27 happening now in Sharm El-Sheikh.

For two Egyptian sisters, we couldn’t be prouder to put our name to this project in all its loud neon glory. Head to their page to listen in to some real talk from an unapologetic group of artists.

Cutting Room Floor #2 The Turnpike Gallery

So this one is pretty straightforward: arch shape = doorway = welcome all! (duh)

We had inclusion at the heart of this route, with an extendable logotype (so accommodating) and the main arch used as a frame, a pattern, all anchored by the beautiful irregularity of old typesetting methods.

While we can’t imagine TPG looking any other way, we’re glad we can share this cutie of a concept 🌞

It’s the stickler for rules, the glamorous but slightly terrifying matriarch that holds the family together, making sure no one steps out of line…

We are, of course, talking about the humble brandbook.

With guidelines on how your brand looks and sounds, there can be no confusion as to where your logo should go, what language to use, what colours go where, and what size your font pairings need to be.

She’s kind of a**l but we love her.

Your brand book’s purpose is pure consistency; the brandbook is made to be shared with your team and any external suppliers so everyone’s in the know.

The brands we make are here for a good time AND a long time.
