Kath T Web Design Shine Online Digital UK I support small businesses (mainly female-led businesses) to help them get found online. All you have to do is ask.

This may be by building them a unique, branded website for their business or by Search Engine Optimisation in order to ensure they're seen online. With an estimated 1.7 billion websites online, it can be hard to break through and get yours seen. You need a unique, well-built, Google-friendly website that is optimised to ensure you get seen. This is what I love doing, building websites that both yo

u the business owner, and your site visitors will love. If you're unsure as to whether you need a website I can help with that too. I'm always happy to chat about your business and how a website can help you to drive new business. I'm equally happy to say that it's probably not the right time for you to be building a website as I acknowledge that a website takes some financial and energetic commitment from the business owner. If you're tech-savvy and want to build your own website I can help with that too.

Morning, Happy Monday!

So it looks like Google's recent helpful content update that completed its rollout on the 9th of September has favoured our website builds with a boost in ranking, impressions and consequently clicks.
This tells me that I'm on the right path with the content that I write and add to my website builds and that the design of the website is one that makes sense to Google. It should also tell you that the content that you add to your website really does need to be helpful to the reader.

How do I know that I'm on the right track?
I use Google Search Console to track these metrics and ensure that my website is getting seen by Google and the best thing is, it's F.ree.
Still not sure why you need a Google Search Console account?

What is Google Search Console and why do you need it? Read this post to find out more about how GSC can help you monitor your website.

We all want to be seen more online and one simple way to increase your visibility and visitors is to optimise your meta descriptions.
Those little snippets of information that you see beneath the business name in search results.
Here's how to do this.

I've been tweaking and testing some features on my websites recently to increase the AOV (average order value) so I want to remind those of you with retail websites to, where possible, have other products available to buy on your product pages.

Let's say you sell scarves and you have one scarf in 3 different patterns, and each pattern is available in three different colours.

These product/s can be set up in two different ways.

1. One product listing with variations in pattern and colour.

Having one listing ensures that anyone visiting it can see all of the options available instantly. While this seems user-friendly it may cause people to visit a page that they have no interest in. Let's say someone searches for a Pink scarf with the intention of finding a hot pink scarf and your listing sells baby pink scarves. This is where separating your products into three products may be useful.

2. Three product listings each defined by the pattern/colour on the scarves.

Having three product listings allows you to make the most of keywords, eg, Floral Scarf, Rainbow Scarf and Spotty Scarf. Increasing your visibility and attracting people looking specifically for those patterns. In this case, we would look to add the other variations to the product page in a way that they can be purchased from that page as well as the main product in order to increase the purchase AOV.

This can also work well for products that have complimentary products, for example, linking a boot polish to a pair of boots or a purple t-shirt to a blue t-shirt so that the buyer purchases two instead of one.

You can see in the image below how we're offing the chance to add a matching brief and chemise to the cart from the main bra product page without having to leave the page.

I'd love to hear from you if this is something that you implement on your product pages and you find it increases your AOV.

Good Morning all, TFIF!
It's been a long week here and I'm not sad to say that the weekend is on the way.
I usually work a little over the weekend but this weekend I will be taking some time out for me.
I have a book to start (and finish knowing me) and we're booked in for a carvery on Sunday. I'm pretty sure that the only thing I'll be capable of after that is TV and sleep.

I do however have space for two or three Website Audits next week so if you're already thinking about peak selling season (Christmas) and you want to know where to focus your efforts this may be for you! I'll drop the link in the comments.

Have a great day x

Throwback Thursday to this post which remains as relevant now as it did then.

You can build the fanciest website in the world but if you don't optimise it for search engines you'll spend your whole life having to tell people about it.

SEO is a method of automating leads to your website from search engines.

Can you believe that it’s almost October already?!?

In case you missed my last post, this is your reminder to get your Christmas products on your website now to maximise the chances of them being seen by Google and added to their search results.
For a quick hit you may want to add your products to Google Merchant Center and make the most of their free shopping listings!

If you need more info don’t hesitate to drop me a message.

⭐️⭐️ Blog Post Up Now ⭐️⭐️

If you've been here for a while now you'll have seen me banging on about the importance of Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) but you may be sitting there thinking, what exactly is it?

Find out here--->

What is SEO?   How Can it Help My Business? If you own an online business, then you’ve likely heard of SEO, but what is SEO? Search Engine Optimisation, or “SEO” for short, is the method by which content may be improved to aid the visibility and ranking of your website on search engines like ...

You may have noticed that I've been less active on here over the last few months.
It's true, I've fallen a little out of love with what I do....
Don't get me wrong, I love websites and optimising them so let me explain a little better why I've found myself having a really good think about the future.

Well, the truth is that I've been creating websites and not doing my best. (Not something that makes me feel good tbh) This hasn't been because I can't complete the work to a high standard but simply because what I've been charging hasn't allowed me to do my best.

It hasn't allowed me to spend the time making sure that the websites that I build are built to be as visible as they should be.

It hasn't allowed me to spend the time that I should discussing with website owners why they should add extra pages and content to their website and the benefits that will come from adding these in.

It hasn't allowed me to spend time discussing the benefits of SEO and keywords with website owners, especially in cases where people have a strong opinion on the words that they want to avoid using on their website (this can be really detrimental).

It hasn't allowed me to offer the extra support to ensure that the websites are found quickly by Search Engines which gives the business the best start possible.

As such I've expanded on my packages a little and fixed my prices for what I offer. That's not to say that I won't be able to quote for extra work but by fixing my prices and services I'm ensuring that I can do my utmost best for those that want a website not a websh*te.

So now that I've got that off my chest (and feel better) How's everyone doing today?

Oh and on a final note, if you have an e-commerce website that sells Christmas items you need to get them online now! Don't wait, if you don't know how to tell Google about your products you may find that your Christmas pages/products etc won't even get added to Googles Index before Christmas.
