Today is Nollaig na mBan or Women’s Christmas or Little Christmas, celebrated in Ireland on the 6th of January every year.

This day marks the traditional end of the Christmas season in Ireland and is rooted in centuries-old custom.

Nollaig na mBan is a unique Irish tradition that honours women for all the hard work they’ve put in over the festive period. Historically, the women of the household would manage the bulk of Christmas cooking, cleaning, decorating and hosting duties, so 6 January became the one day when the roles were reversed and they were free to rest, socialise and celebrate together while men took over the chores.

Today, 3rd January, is Festival of Sleep Day 😴. Landing just after the festive rush, it’s the perfect excuse to slow down, recharge, and indulge in a bit of well-deserved rest.

Festival of Sleep Day is believed to have started as a light-hearted reminder to catch up on sleep after the busy holiday season. While no one is entirely sure who first created it, the meaning is universal: sleep is essential. The day encourages people to prioritise rest, practise good sleep habits, and enjoy a peaceful pause before jumping fully into the new year. It’s now widely embraced by wellness brands, sleep experts, and anyone who loves a cosy duvet day.

Today is a special date that celebrates human ingenuity and a giant leap forward for global travel ⬇️

✈️ Wright Brothers Day on 17th December honours the pioneering achievement of Orville Wright and Wilbur Wright, who, back in 1903, made the first successful controlled, powered flight. Their innovation changed the course of history, launching the era of modern aviation and making our world far more connected.

🌍 What makes this day special
• It marks the moment when humankind first took to the skies under its own power, proving that long-distance travel by air was possible.
• It’s a nod to innovation, persistence and the far-reaching impact of technological breakthroughs - values that still inspire engineering, travel, and progress today.

🚀 Ideas to get involved or create content around Wright Brothers Day
• Share a mini-history thread or post: exploring how the first flight happened, what challenges were overcome, and how far aviation has come since.
• Ask followers about their most memorable flight - whether a first plane journey or a dream destination and why flying means something to them.
• Feature modern aviation developments or fun facts from early biplanes to today’s jets, and perhaps future innovations like spaceflight.
• Use a reflective or inspirational tone: highlight how one bold idea and determination to experiment can reshape the world.
• Encourage conversation: “What does flight mean to you?” or “Where in the world would you fly if you could go anywhere?” These are great for engagement and storytelling.

✨ Wright Brothers Day is a celebration of curiosity, courage and progress and is a reminder that sometimes all it takes is a dream, determination and a little bit of engineering to change everything.

This month marks Safe Toys & Gifts Month, a reminder to all parents, gift-givers and caregivers to choose toys and gifts that are safe, appropriate and child-friendly.

🎯 The aim of Safe Toys & Gifts Month is to highlight just how important it is to select toys and gifts that match a child’s age and developmental stage especially at a time of year when shopping and gift-giving ramp up.

✅ So what can we all do to keep the festive season safe and fun? Here are some helpful tips:
• Always check safety labels and age-recommendations before buying toys.
• Avoid toys with small detachable parts or anything that could be a choking hazard.
• Inspect toys for potential risks sharp edges, loose parts or fragility before giving them to a child.
• Supervise playtime, especially with younger children, and store toys safely out of reach when not in use.
• Where possible, choose toys that encourage learning, creativity or development and consider non-toxic, eco-friendly alternatives.

📲 As you put together your festive shopping lists or help parents and carers find safe gifts remember safety should always come first. Share tips, raise awareness, and help make this season joyful and safe for everyone.
