𝗗𝗢𝗘𝗦 𝗚𝗢𝗢𝗚𝗟𝗘 𝗞𝗡𝗢𝗪 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗘𝗫𝗜𝗦𝗧?

So you have just launched your website and are all excited about the business this website is going to generate for you! But you wait and wait and just a trickle or nothing comes through…

And you wonder why??

A website is launched approximately every 3 seconds. And Google is the most used search engine when looking up products and services. So you would waiting a long time before Google takes notice of your website and discovers how fabulous you are.

< WHAT CAN YOU DO TO GET NOTICED ONLINE? >

1. Set up a Google Search Console account with your gmail account. AND IT’S FREE!
2. Submit your sitemap to Google Search Console.

By doing so, you are letting Google know about your existence and your website will be prioritised to be crawled and index for the search engine.

The submission and verification process should take between 24-48 hours and you should be on your way to letting the world know about how the wonderful things you do!

< WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE? >

1. The main difference is how data is measured. UA measures interactions by page views and GA4 by events. GA4 covers page views plus video views, clicks etc.

GA4 offers a more comprehensive view of how a user navigates a website.

2. GA4 can collect data without third party cookies or collecting IP addresses.

3. GA4 has predictive capabilities. For example, how likely a user will make a purchase, will a user revisit a website or how much is a user likely to spend.

4. Customisable report pages.

5. Bounce rates have been replaced by engagement rates in GA4.

< WHY THE CHANGE? >

GA4 has been made to be more relevant to SEO today and allows for more informed reports allowing you to change your SEO strategy accordingly to reap the best results from your strategies.

So remember the deadline is the 1st of July before UA shuts down. So avoid losing all your data and do that migration now!

It feels like there has been a lot of scaremongering going on about the latest algorithm update release by Google this May.

I hope to bring a bit more clarity and CALM about what this update means for business owners with this post.

< WHAT IS THIS ABOUT? >

This update will allow Google to ‘search deeper’ to see if content is written from a personal or an expert POV.

Content will now be ranked with a focus on unique expertise and experience.

Writing from your own findings and experience will now be picked up by Google even though you aren’t an authority site.

< WHAT DOES THIS MEAN? >

This is going to highlight ORIGINAL high-quality content in search results!

There is a good chance that this update could actually uncover hidden gems and give content that would not otherwise be noticed because it isn’t from an authority site.

WHAT DO I DO NOW?

Keep writing folks! Write from a more authentic perspective rather than just for clicks. Give your content depth and inject YOU in your content!

I feel this is going to make the digital world a lot more richer - DON’T YOU THINK???

First of all, I hear you ask what is 𝗔𝗟𝗧 𝗧𝗘𝗫𝗧?

ALT TEXT or alternative text for images is for people who are accessing a web page with a screen reader.

It is quite an important factor when it comes to Google ranking and 𝗜𝗧 𝗠𝗨𝗦𝗧 𝗡𝗢𝗧 𝗕𝗘 𝗜𝗚𝗡𝗢𝗥𝗘𝗗.

Google wants to be accessible to people of all abilities. So listen up!

𝗦𝗢, 𝗛𝗢𝗪 𝗗𝗢 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗨𝗦𝗘 𝗔𝗟𝗧 𝗧𝗘𝗫𝗧?

Alt text should not only be used to describe the image but it should also be used to describe the image with the context of the page in mind.

Just think how is that image relevant to the subject matter on the page.

If for example, you have an image of a person doing a downward dog asana on a blog post about lower back pain, how would you describe it in alt text?

I would describe the image in alt text as, LOWER BACK PAIN DOWNWARD DOG POSE.

In this way, your keywords aren’t only being picked up within the text on your page but also in Google Images.

And a visually impaired person, just as an example, will understand the purpose of a downward dog pose image within a blog post about managing lower back pain!

So remember, the next time you think about how to describe your images for ALT TEXT, think how does it relate to what you are trying to say on your webpage!

< 𝗗𝗜𝗗 𝗬𝗢𝗨 𝗞𝗡𝗢𝗪? >

If you are a small business this will apply to you. The GMB app is being replaced with Google Search and Maps. You will now be able to manage your accounts from there. You will also be able to pick up messages from Google Search or Google Maps.

If you haven’t claimed or verified your spot on Google. Fret not, you can still do so via Google Search or Maps.

If you are a big gun with offices or shops in multiple locations your Google My Business will be renamed to Google Business Profile. None of my clients fall in the later category!

Just a heads up. I haven’t tried this myself as yet as this news came into my inbox last week! Let me know if you have had a go at how this change is working out for you?

Hello! And am back in the UK and all ready to start work again. It’s been a lovely time with family and dear friends back in Singapore. But the weather was beginning to get unbearable. It’s been 34 degrees C and coming back to snow and 5 degrees C is a bit of shock to my system. But thankfully we have sun today!

How many times have you told yourself that you aren’t quite ready or things aren’t perfect enough or you can’t quite figure out your direction yet?

Truth is, none of us ever do. I decided to launch my business with an incomplete website. I was being nit picky and hard on myself and expected things to be perfect before I went live. But if I waited for that to happen, I would just be delaying my launch and my opportunity for sales! So I thought what the heck! Let’s go for it! And glad I did!

Sometimes, you may feel like you have it altogether (in theory). But when you are actually in the thick of running your business, you may realise your ideal client has changed a bit. Or you begin to learn new things about your ideal client which you would never do if you didn’t launch your business. Or your goals that you set before aren’t realistic.

SO I SAY, JUST DIVE IN! 
You aren’t going to be a 100% ready, ever, but trust that you will work things out as you go along! And you most certainly will.

So I hope this message from me through my own experience will make you think about what’s holding you back from starting your dream business!

Your About page is like inviting someone into your home. Your home should be a reflection of your personality and values & beliefs.

What drives you?
What are you passionate about?
What are your interests?

⛅️Make your visitor feel safe and secure when they come into your home.

Share your experience.
Your credentials and qualifications.
Pop some testimonials while you are at it.
Make them feel like they are in good hands and will be taken care of.

⛅️The way to someone’s heart is through their belly!

Have you served up solutions?
Have you shown how you have brought about change in others lives and your own?
Are you addressing their pain points?
Are you connecting to your ideal client?

⛅️Extend another invitation to come back!

Have you made your contact details available?
Is there a contact form for them to complete?
Have you displayed your socials?

There you go! I hope you give your About page a little thought about how you are connecting with your visitors. Are you making them feel at home or do they feel like they are plotting for the nearest exit??

⛅️ADOBE COLOR - you can create your own palette, extract colours from an image, or get inspiration from the trending palettes! This is my favourite!

⛅️COOLORS.CO - you can generate your own palette or get inspiration from their countless trending palettes. I actually got the inspiration for the colours for Yellow Skies from COOLORS. The colours are absolutely gorgeous and for all tastes!
