PSA: BRAND AWARENESS AND SALES ARE NOT THE SAME THING đŁď¸
But that doesnât mean one matters more than the other.
A lot of businesses look at a piece of content, see that it didnât generate an enquiry that week and immediately assume it hasnât worked.
Meanwhile, that same post might have introduced hundreds of the right people to the brand, helped them understand what the business does and made it far more likely that theyâll remember it when theyâre ready to buy.
Which sounds pretty useful to us đ¤ˇđťââď¸
Brand awareness is there to build familiarity, trust and recognition over time.
Sales activity has a different job. It gives people a reason to act, enquire or buy.
The problem starts when you expect every piece of marketing to do both jobs at once.
A Reel reaching thousands of relevant people might be a brilliant awareness campaign, even if it doesnât lead to an immediate sale.
An email sent to a much smaller, warmer audience might generate thousands of pounds in revenue.
Neither is âbetter.â Theyâre simply doing different jobs within the same marketing strategy.
Thatâs why the question shouldnât always be:
âDid this post make a sale?â
A much better question is:
âWhat was this piece of marketing supposed to achieve, and did it do that job well?â
At the end of the day, sales without awareness can feel like trying to sell to a room full of strangers.
On the other hand, awareness without a clear route to buy can leave you with lots of attention but very little action.
You need both working together đ¤
So, before you panic and decide your marketing isnât working, take a look at the bigger picture.
Are you building awareness with the right audience?
Are you nurturing that audience over time?
And when they are ready to buy, have you made the next step clear?
Thatâs where a strong marketing strategy starts to make life miles easier for your sales team.
