Getting featured in the media is great.⠀
⠀
Sharing it once on Instagram and then forgetting about it? Not so much. 😉⠀
⠀
Good media coverage is an asset. Use it to build trust, strengthen your website, support your SEO and add to the evidence of your expertise online.⠀
⠀
Repurposing content is just one of the things I help photographers with and which helps them to fully leverage their expertise and time for maximum impact. Find out more about my ‘Done For You’ service on my website ⠀
⠀
In the mean time, a few ideas for making your next press feature work harder for you 👆⠀
⠀
Have you ever been featured and then didn’t get around to making the most of it?

One of the biggest misconceptions I see photographers make about PR is assuming that because something is exciting or important to their business, it will automatically interest the media.⠀
⠀
You might have won an award, launched a new project, published a book or achieved something you’re incredibly proud of.⠀
⠀
But that doesn’t necessarily make it newsworthy.⠀
⠀
A journalist isn’t asking, “Is this impressive?”⠀
They’re asking, “Why will my audience care?”⠀
⠀
And understanding that difference is one of the most important parts of successful PR.⠀
⠀
Interesting ≠ newsworthy⠀
⠀
Want to know what makes a story newsworthy? On my blog, I’ve created a new article with tips. Check it out via the link in my bio.

What happens when a bunch of professional photographers meet up for the lovely Zoe's photographers marketing met ups and want to take a selfie? Well who better than the only one of us who is NOT a professional photographer hahaa.

Another wonderful morning again, so lovely to see everyone and chat business without any competitiveness at all. I am already looking forward to next month.

If you are a Dorset based photographer and you don't go to these, you are missing out big time. Check out

A little glimpse behind the scenes at today’s Photography Marketing Community meetup in Poole 📸⠀
⠀
One of the things I love most about these events is seeing local photographers come together to talk openly about the realities of marketing a photography business, share experiences and ideas, and realise they’re often grappling with many of the same things.⠀
⠀
Today we talked about marketing without the cringe, including what can make self-promotion feel awkward, the things we definitely don’t want our marketing to become, and how to become more visible without feeling pushy or inauthentic.⠀
⠀
Plenty of good conversation, practical ideas and hopefully a bit more confidence to go away and put them into action!⠀
⠀
Thank you to everyone who came along today. 😊 ⠀
⠀
I’m already thinking about how these events could evolve in 2027, and I’ve got some exciting ideas brewing. More on that soon…

I’ve spent a great morning with the Photography Marketing Community in Poole today, talking about mindset and self-promotion without the ick!⠀
⠀
We discussed some of the fears and mindset challenges that can hold photographers back from talking about themselves and their work, and how to become more visible without feeling pushy, boastful or uncomfortable.⠀
⠀
Everyone left with a 24-hour visibility challenge: at least one specific action they’ve committed to taking to promote themselves and their photography, while pushing past some of those fears. 🙌⠀
⠀
If you’re a photographer in Dorset and would like to join us, our next Photography Marketing Community event is in October. You’ll find all the details on my website.⠀

What does the internet know about your photography business that hasn’t come directly from you?⠀
⠀
Media coverage. Podcast interviews. Mentions. Links. Recommendations.⠀
⠀
That third-party evidence has always been valuable for building credibility.⠀
⠀
Now that people are increasingly turning to Google and AI tools for recommendations, I’d argue it matters more than ever.⠀
⠀
Something worth thinking about when planning your visibility marketing. 👆

There is no single route to building a successful photography business, and successful photographers do not necessarily market themselves everywhere. There you go…two bits of advice for you, today. I hope they help. ⠀
⠀
Those who are most successful understand the clients they want, invest in visibility that supports their particular business and keep adapting as the market changes.⠀
⠀
In my latest blog, I pulled together some of the most useful photography business and marketing lessons shared by the photographers I have interviewed to date, including Andy Scaysbrook, Matt and Jodie Ward of The Sassenachs, David Lloyd | Wildlife, Atlanta Photographer, ANNA // photography & education and Kirstie McConnell of Kirstie McConnell-Italy Vacation Photographer.⠀
⠀
You can find those via my blog or on my YouTube channel (link in bio) if you’re curious to know more.

What would make you interesting to the media?⠀
⠀
It’s one of the first things I explore when I start working with a new photography client.⠀
⠀
Successful PR is about finding the story around the work and giving an editor or podcast host a reason to share it with their audience.⠀
⠀
That’s the bit of PR I particularly enjoy…⠀
⠀
Finding the angle that makes someone on the other side of an inbox think: “Yes. I want to know more about this.”⠀
⠀
And then, when you get that interest, it’s a big thrill, even after more than 20 years in PR! ⠀
⠀
What about your work still thrills you after all your years as a photographer? 🤔
