This is the saddest search term I've ever seen in a client account.

Someone was clearly having a terrible day, so Google served them an ad. YES! An ad was served when they typed their bad term into the search bar.

But was that person ever going to buy from you? Probably not. Definitely not.

There are terms like this in your account right now, costing you money that you probably haven't seen... because you haven’t checked your search terms lately.

And if you do see a term like this. Do you know what to do with it, so it doesn’t cost you your budget?

Most small businesses put a lot of time into social media and forget that Google exists. Google and social media do completely different jobs.

When someone says "I'll Google it" and types what they need into the search bar, they're already looking for a solution, not just browsing.

If you've swerved Google and are only on social media, you might be missing the people who are ready to get in touch right now.

Think about the last time you said "I'll Google it."

What were you looking for? A business, a product, a holiday maybe or something else.

Most people don't actually think about what happens when they type something into Google. You open the app, type in what you need:

– Plumber in Reading
– Therapist near me

Then Google shows you a list of results... that's called search.

Search isn't like social media where you're scrolling the feed hoping something catches your eye. With search you're actively looking for something specific.

Every day people are using Google to search for businesses just like yours. A plumber, a therapist, a will writer. They're typing what they need and looking for who can help.

Oat milk in my matcha latte springs to mind.
For a lot of small businesses, it's Google Ads.

Don't discount running ads until you've tried them. You only pay when someone clicks on your ad. Plus, you set the budget can pause the ads any time.

Sometimes you just have to give it a chance. Once you start, you won't want to stop!

A lot of small businesses assume Google Ads is too expensive to do, so they never look into it. It's not as expensive as you think.

You decide what you spend. You can start small, and pause any time.

If cost has been the reason you've not looked into it yet, it might be worth a second look.
