Every post has one job. Stop the scroll.

Not "hello, buy my stuff." Something that makes someone think, that's me, or that's what I've been looking for.

There's a second job most people miss. Facebook and Instagram will let Google find your posts if the option is switched on.

So if someone's typing a real question into Google, your post can be the answer.

Here's where AI-generated content ruins both jobs at once. It doesn't stop the scroll, because it reads like every other caption out there.

And it doesn't get found either, because it's not saying anything specific enough for Google to bother with.

Effective content comes from a business's own examples. Their customer's exact words.

If you sound like everyone else and nobody's stopping, and nobody's finding you either.

If someone was going to write a song about what I teach my clients about Marketing Strategy... it was going to be me 😅

Most people think marketing is about being more visible. Post more, run more ads, show up more consistently and the sales will follow.

And when it doesn't work, the assumption is always that they need to do more of it.

What I do looks very different to that.

I fix the broken foundation first. Once that's right, I create a unique organic and paid marketing strategy that converts.

Using my Strategy - Structure - Sales Framework, I have helped clients achieve a 49% year on year growth in five months. 11x return on ad spend. 66,000 leads for a course creator.

Seeing someone do well with something and deciding to sell it too isn't a shortcut to their success. It's just more of the same thing in a market that already has it.

Their audience isn't the same audience, and what worked for them came from a deep knowledge of who their customers are, from innovation, from something they developed over time.

None of that is transferable.

Once the chasing starts, it doesn't stop, because there will always be something else that looks like it's working for someone else, and the cycle just continues.

Stop looking sideways and stay in your own lane. Work out what makes the business different and focus on that, because that's where the growth is.

WhatsApp is rolling out usernames so this is your heads up.

Every platform that has done this has had the same short window where you can get your brand name before someone else does.

Instagram, Twitter, X, Bluesky...... There is always a land grab, and the early movers always win.

WhatsApp usernames are unique, the same as other platforms. So if you are using it for business, reserving the name that matches the rest of your brand is the move.

To check if it's available to you yet, go to Settings, then tap your profile name. If you can see a Username field, you've got access. If not, it's on its way.

So hop on over and check it out, so you don't miss out.

You wouldn't ignore a warning light on your dashboard and carry on driving. You wouldn't ignore a warning light on your dashboard and carry on driving. So why do we do it with our business?

When your car starts playing up, you don't guess. You don't try a different route and hope the noise goes away. You get it looked at. You find out exactly what's wrong before you spend money trying to fix it.

When sales get inconsistent, the natural response is to post more, try a different platform, run a discount, change your website. More activity, but without knowing what the actual problem is.

Your Marketing MOT works the same way as taking your car to a garage. It will take just minutes and give you a clear view of what is going on.

Want to find out? Comment MOT and I'll send you the link.

I will never stop respecting the moment before I hit go on something I can't undo on a client's site.

When I press confirm, it does something to my stomach, and it doesn't matter how prepared I am or how many times I've done it before.

Today was a tech integration on a client's website, not mine, not my platform, and someone else's livelihood sitting there while I held my breath and clicked confirm.
I think there were about five are you ready moments!

This particular integration, if it had gone wrong, would have been an epic disaster; you can't do it on a test environment, it's live, it's visible, and their customers would notice pretty sharpish, let alone the chaos potential.

It didn't go wrong 😅

It works, we'll iron out any gremlins, and they can now do something they couldn't do before in a way that'll save them time and make them money.

Those thirty seconds before I hit confirm were not comfortable, and it doesn't matter how experienced I am or how many times I've done it before; it still makes me nervous.

This is the bit nobody tells you about running your own consultancy - the weight of caring about someone else's business like it's your own is heavy.

But I wouldn't have it any other way.

I roast my own posts, and occasionally other people's 🫣

It took a while to admit that the content I write for other businesses is far better than what I put out for myself.

I know what it's supposed to be, I just find it hard to apply it to my own business without feeling awkward about it, and that awkwardness means I end up hiding what I actually do rather than just saying it.

Turns out reading the label from inside the jar is just as hard, even when you know what the label is supposed to say.

Content that hasn't been thought through can bury the point so completely that nobody gets it, or say something you never meant.

A beauty therapist who wrote "results may vary." Which reads as: you may or may not get what you paid for.

A personal trainer who described their clients as "people who've tried everything else." Which reads as: try everyone else first, then come to me.

A business that announced they were fully booked. Which reads as: don't bother enquiring.

Some of these can make for very expensive mistakes.

Watching someone else's strategy is not the same as having one yourself.

Some businesses copy what's working for someone else, not maliciously, just from a place of feeling stuck about what to try next.

Sometimes that's the content itself, sometimes it's asking AI to write in the same style, which gives that same cadence everyone recognises. The rhythm, the structure, and the tone. AI writes like AI, and once you know what to look for, you spot it everywhere.

When you dilute your own approach like that, you sound like everyone else in your space, sometimes in any space, just swap the business name 🫣

And if you sound like everyone else, no one has a reason to choose you.

Competitive positioning means giving someone a clear reason to choose your business over another. It has nothing to do with what your competitor stocks, how they price, or how they show up online.

Every piece of content I put out, for my own business and for the businesses I work with, has a purpose. It connects back to the message, to what that business is actually trying to achieve.

Without purpose, it's just words on a screen that might get a like and "love your stuff hun" but no action.
