For the last few months I've been working on a website revamp with Frances at Yorkahire Equimove () and I'm so pleased with the result!

The previous version of the website had been designed and built by another company over a decade ago and wasn't mobile friendly, so it was in desperate need of an upgrade. As we were doing a whole website revamp, Frances decided on a new colour scheme to match the branding on her transport and the new sleek (and more importantly, mobile friendly design) will be a lot easier for her customers to use and navigate.

Last year, I was lucky enough to work with two lovely Yorkshire driving instructors ( and ). They were both going solo after working for a company for many years, so they needed websites to get their businesses up and running. They came to me with their logos, a brief of what they needed from the website, and I got to work.

Happy New Year! I know what you're thinking, you've not seen much of me in the last year. Well, 2025 was such a busy year for Ceri Wood Designs, that I didn't have much free time to keep you updated on what I was up to. So, although new years resolutions are controversial, I will aim to be more active on here so you can see what I'm busy doing behind the scenes. I launched quite a few new websites last year, so I'll show you some of them, as well as post useful information about websites and the technical side of being online.

Every website needs images and photographs; that’s pretty standard in the majority of cases.

Audiences need images and photographs to accompany text to keep their attention and make viewing websites a more engaging and enjoyable experience. Photographs on a website can help visitors gain a feel for a company, and what their ethos and attitude is like.

Photographs are especially important when the face of the company is you! People buy from people, so getting across your personality to potential customers can be very valuable in them trusting and liking your company.

That said, any photographs on your website should be of a certain quality. I’m not a fan of selfies on websites (save that for social media) and lighting and composition should be well considered. If someone is going to buy your product and service, then you’ll need to demonstrate to them that you are invested in your business and don’t do things “on the cheap”. (Also a good reason to hire a professional website designer!)

Hence, this is why all the photographs of me on my website are taken by a professional. They obviously show that I am a dog lover, and I’m hoping that they portray me as a down to earth and approachable person….who isn’t going to bamboozle you with technical jargon! So, what are the photographs on your website like? Do they give the correct impression to potential customers?

HAPPY NEW YEAR! I hope you've all had a lovely festive time and are enjoying a happy and healthy start to the new year. I've taken a well-earned break from social media for a few weeks, so am fully rested and ready to crack on with 2024!

I also want to say a big thank you to all my clients, old and new, who have chosen me and continue to choose me to work with – it’s an absolute pleasure. I'm looking forward to seeing what 2024 brings!

If you’re wanting your business to become a well-recognised brand and for people to know straight away it’s you when they see any adverts online, in the flesh or on social media, then you need to be consistent with your branding.

From logo, to colours, to typography, once you’ve finalised your brand style, stick with it.

You should have your logo on everything from your leaflets, website, email signature, business cards, social media posts and it should be consistent throughout.

Whenever I create a piece of marketing for my business, I use the same colours, fonts and background images for everything so that my customers can tell straight away that it’s me.

Take a bit of time to review all aspects of your business presence, be that in the flesh or online, and make sure that everything is ties in with each other and that each item is recognisably you!

This is me in my office, obviously very hard at work. This is where I design, build and maintain websites for my clients – it's where the magic happens. There's also a handy spot on the day bed for Beau, where she can supervise me and take care of her neighbourhood watch duties.

Sarah runs physio-led Pilates classes in Harrogate, and because I'm a big fan of Pilates (I go to classes twice a week), I really enjoyed working on this site.

Get the basics right.

There’s several pages I recommend that all my clients have on their website as a minimum:

Home Page – this serves as a snapshot and overview of who you are, what you offer and how to contact you.

About Page – this page will cover anything from who you are as a person or company, what you do and why you do it. It will allow your customers to get a better understanding of the face behind the business.

Services/What you Offer – this page is the product or service you're selling. It can be broken down further into separate pages if you have a lot services and information that you need to get onto the website.

Contact page – One of my main reasons for visiting a company’s website is to get their contact details and I expect to see a contact page on every website I visit. It can include a contact form, address, a map and social media links.

Does your website include these pages? If not, it’s a good idea to add them.
