Brian used to call me “black fingers” because I was rubbish with plants… one year I plucked a load of seedlings, because I thought they were weeds 🙈

I’ve learnt so much, especially in the last 18 months, volunteering up and down the country on smallholdings and farms 💚

It’s so amazing what you can achieve in a month and a half! (If I can do it… anyone can!)

🌱 deer proof fence goes up (in the pouring rain 🌧)

I highly recommend following for hints and tips on no dig… it really is the future 💚

A Sunday well spent, brings a week of content 🤍

As we’re in the New Forest for the spring / summer, we’ve managed to find a little plot to grow things! 🌱💚…
(We’ve been a mini farm on wheels the last 3 months … so glad to get the stuff in the ground!)
We had an allotment a few years ago but spent our one day off just battling weeds and mowing grass 😫🤣 (we did manage to grow some stuff but it was HARD WORK - especially with 3 young kids that I had to bribe to be there)
Now they’re older and with my constant “forcing” them to be immersed in nature, they actually love being outdoors and are excited to be the caretakers of this little plot of land 🙌🌱
We spent 6 hours preparing :
🌿no dig beds,
🌿moving compost into wheelbarrows, 🌿lugging water,
🌿creating deer proof plant guards, 🌿whittling plant markers and more… the kids didn’t want to leave?!!
“It’s only been a couple of hours!” They said 👀
Now we just need to keep everything alive and keep the deer / rabbits / insects from munching everything… wish us luck!

4 months, making magical memories in Sennen (near lands end)… we’re on the move again—> for a west coast adventure 🚐
So grateful to have spent the winter in such a beautiful place…
☀️We’ve had birthdays on the beach (in January!)
🌱Volunteered, planting trees and harvesting organic food.
☀️Foraged and cooked
🌱Made new friends and connections
☀️Finished some interior decorating (finally!)

We’re on day 5 of our latest adventure and already I’m exhausted 😆…
We’ve visited ports, harbours, towns, villages, moors, beaches, castles, cliffs and caves (pictures to follow) 😰❤️😊

More tree planting today…🌳
Different lessons learnt, as the ground was stony and full of roots 😅
We were planning to go whatever the weather but we were lucky to have glorious sunshine ☀️
Planted :
Oak ☑️
Gorse ☑️
Goat Willow ☑️

🌳Growing different varieties together, creates bio diversity and each have different benefits which help each other…
🌳 fast growing trees, such as willow, become a windbreak for the slower growing oak, for example.
🌳Gorse is good for hedging and is wind tolerant (you’ll often find it on heathland, open moors and coastal areas)

Digging & planting 🌱💚…
Love this time of year and I’m loving slow travel… this is a throwback from last year in Scotland .. we stayed for a month and learnt so much 💚
A year later we are at the other end of the UK and have found a fab community farm to be a part of.
I met the tree care group and we weeded, mulched and planted some Oak trees 🌳
A great team of volunteers who came armed with cake and tea 😍🙌🫖🍰
