Who else has MySpace to thank for their career? 🙋🏻‍♀️😂

My love for websites first begin WAAAYYYY back into the early 2000s when a friend showed me a MySpace profile generator that spat out code for you to add into your profile to make it look the way you want.

“What magic is this???” 😍

I was hooked! And spent hours, days, MONTHS, pulling apart and playing around with this magical code (HTML + CSS) to see what I could create.

(One time I even stayed up till 1am, waiting for the internet to kick in after a house move so I could spend my time coding funky designs into the early hours of the morning.)

Little did I know I was actually learning how to design and build websites! And it wasn’t long before I was taking my new found skills off MySpace and onto DreamWeaver, Microsoft Expression Web, and eventually WordPress where my coding skills found home!

It’s funny because my mum always said “Nothing good will come from you sitting at the computer all day Eloise!”

But that’s exactly what set me up for my business today 😂

Who knows where I’d be today if it wasn’t for those neon colours, zany graphics, flashy gifs, and cryptic song lyrics eh!

I can’t believe she was having to deal with this 😱

Recently, I put a new website live for a client and when I logged into her old one to switch, my heart sank for her.

Because this wesite was a TOTAL MESS!

When my client first approached me, it took her DAYS to implement simple changes like updating an image or adding new text.

And when I took one look at her old website dashboard, it was NO WONDER!

There were 100 different menu options so it took an age just to scroll to the options she did require.

There were plugins upon plugins - some of which her site didn’t even need and were constantly cluttering up her dashboard with unnecessary pop ups that pushed down the information she actually needed.

Getting to the right sections to make edits felt like crystal maze as there were 100 different options to click on before getting to the right place.

The ‘bespoke’ theme itself was a bloated, Frankenstein of just a bunch of other themes - non of which had anything bespoke about them. The site was made with pre-built templates all hacked together to make one giant mess of monster that hijacked my clients time every single time she logged in.

No wonder she felt dread every time she needed to go in and make changes.

No wonder it took her days to add tweaks.

No wonder she procrastinated on bigger website jobs like adding a blog.

So you can imagine her delight when I put her new site live and she logged in for the first time and INSTANTLY knew where everything was!
