Hi, Lisa here!
This week my little business turned 21 years old, and honestly, I’m not quite sure quite how that happened.
Twenty one years of clients, creativity, problem solving, lessons learned, pivots, growth, cups of tea" and occasional moments of wondering what on earth I was doing 😂
(* and if we are being completely honest, a lot of glasses of wine too.)
But after all this time, here are just 5 of the many things I’ve learned about running a business, which I thought I'd share:
1. You will never have all the facts when making a decision — sometimes you just have to trust yourself and move forward.
2. A job isn’t a job until you get paid. This is a business, not your hobby.
3. Self-belief matters more than most people realise, especially on the hard days.
4. Cashflow is the lifeblood of a business, so chase those invoices without guilt.
5. Trust your tummy — if something feels wrong, pay attention. BUT - if something feels exciting, lean into it.
Running a business is never really just about the work itself. It’s about people, resilience, relationships and continuing to show up even when things feel uncertain and a bit rubbish.
And after 21 years, I’m still incredibly grateful that I took the leap and started. Even if some days I have to remind myself of that very feeling.
If you've been running a business and have any advice you'd like to share feel free to jump in and add it in the comments!
