There’s a lot of content out there at the moment, but not all of it is saying very much. 😳

My latest Sussex Scroll column is now live in Sussex Exclusive, and this month I’m talking about why authenticity matters more than ever on social media (and yes, I know that word is used a LOT right now, but it's important).

I’ve noticed recently that so much social media content is starting to look and sound the same. There's the same graphics, the same over-polished captions, and the same AI feel that says all the right things but doesn’t really show you the business, the people or the personality behind it.

Why does this really matter? Well, social media has always been built on people and connection. AI can be brilliant when it’s used properly, but it should support your voice, not replace what makes your business recognisably yours. 💡

In this month’s column, I’ve chosen four Sussex Instagram accounts that show authenticity in very different ways: John Lewis Horsham, Hardham Stamps, I Am The Italian Coffee Guy and Horsham Matters.

You can read the full column online and if you know a Sussex Instagram account doing something brilliant, please send it my way. I’m always looking for future Sussex Scroll features!

Meta Glasses…discuss! 🤓

A quick demo for you on how the work, what they could be used for (good and bad!) and why we shouldn’t chastise everyone who might be wearing a pair - yes, some people will be using for the wrong purposes and should be called out for this, but others will be using them in the right way and to make the world more accessible (see the link in my bio if you’re interested in finding out more on this). 🔗

Phew! 😮‍💨 That was a long one but worthwhile - let me know your thoughts…

When two social media agency owners meet at Social Day London, there’s always going to be a lot to talk about. 🤣

And when one of them is also an ex-optician who can identify your glasses and prescription at 10 paces, you know you’re in skilled company! 🤓

It was brilliant to catch up with Garry from after last seeing each other at Social Media Marketing World in California earlier this year. 🌍

From California to London, the conversation is still the same: what’s changing, what’s working, what’s actually useful, and how we help our clients make sense of social media without getting distracted by every shiny new thing. 😎

Events like this are a good reminder social media is always moving, but the best advice still comes from people who are out there learning, testing, adapting and bringing it back to the businesses they work with. Lots of hints, tips and tricks coming your way. 💡

Come and join me! Next Thursday afternoon, I’ll be at WDR Ltd in Horsham for a one-hour social media top tips session as part of Learning at Work Week. 🤩

It’s designed for business owners, professionals and teams who know they should be making better use of social media, but don’t always have the time, headspace or confidence to know where to start. 🤨

I’ll be sharing practical, realistic advice you can actually use, including how to make your content work harder, and how to stop treating social media as something you squeeze in when everything else is done.

Social media does not need to be complicated but it does need a bit of thought behind it. 💡

The session runs from 2pm to 3pm at WDR in Horsham and tickets are just £10. A perfect little Learning at Work Week boost for anyone who wants to sharpen up their social media and leave with ideas they can put into action straight away!

Drop me a message if you want the booking details. 💻

Where in the world am I today…? 🤣

At the Acumen Law🦓 Business Convention in a very sunny Brighton on the Collaboration table.

Also…can we take a moment for the personalised pocket guides? Such a clever touch and one of those details which instantly makes an event feel considered and memorable rather than just another conference!

One of the things I always enjoy most about events like this is not only the speakers, it’s the conversations in between and the unexpected introductions. Those “we should definitely chat after this” moments. 🤝

If you’re here today, come and say hello. And if we’ve already spoken, thank you for such interesting conversations already, Brighton sunshine and good business energy is a pretty good combination. 😎

I’m in California at Social Media Marketing World 2026, and there’s a really interesting balance in the conversations happening here. 💬

Yes, AI is everywhere! Tools, workflows, automation, efficiency; it’s very impressive and it matters.

But just as loud, if not louder, is the message around being human….authenticity, connection, and real relationships. 🤝

It’s to remember that no matter how advanced the tools become, people still buy from people. They connect with people. They remember how you made them feel.

You might wonder why I’m here after working in social media for 18 years. Well, it’s not only to understand what’s new, but to sense where things are going. It’s to challenge what I think I know, and to make sure what I bring back to my clients isn’t recycled, surface-level advice, but something considered, current and actually useful.

Good marketing isn’t jumping on everything new. It’s about knowing what to use, when to use it, and how to keep it feeling human.

AI isn’t replacing that. If anything, it’s making it more important. I’m curious…how are you balancing AI with staying human in your business? 💁🏻‍♀️🤖

When you get all excited that has sent you a voice note and then realise it’s a ‘send to all’ as the platform launches a new feature 🤣

Hope you can listen on 1.5 or 2x speed as you can on WhatsApp…

“What’s in a name?” 🤔

Well it turns out...quite a lot if you’re trying to be discovered on Instagram.

The latest edition of The Sussex Scroll is live, and this month I’m diving into how the search function really works. (Spoiler Alert: if you’re a local business and your account name doesn’t include your location, you might be harder to find than you think.)

I’ve featured five brilliant Sussex-based accounts I found because of how they’ve used their name fields, and why it’s something worth checking on your own profile. 🔍

Do have a read, link in the usual place. And if you’ve ever discovered a favourite local account thanks to clever naming, I’d love to hear about it.

BRAND & DELIVER ✨ What. A. Day. What. An. Event.

We had brilliant people, powerful insights. and a room full of heart and strategy. 🥰

I spoke about how to show up with clarity and consistency on social media, as an individual and as a recognisable, relatable brand. (Shoutout to my faves, Innocent Smoothies for being the gold standard in brand voice!)

The powerhouse that is Dee Blick, co-organised this amazing event with me, with her signature sparkle and strategic firepower. 💥

The speakers, sponsors and guests were absolute superstars:

🎤 Speakers:
Lucy Pitts, Sussex Exclusive
Guy Watts, Architectural Plants
Brenda Dempsey
Richard Betts, Pied A Terre Adventures

🤝 Sponsors:
Hayley Georgiou Property
Lovewater UK
John Acton, peer2peer

Many thanks to our amazing MC, Tim Fifield, for keeping the day running smoothly, and to Sophie Ward for the photos. 📸

If you joined us, what was your biggest takeaway? And if you didn’t...you’ll want to be at the next one… 😉
