‘Hack My Wardrobe’

Hi Everyone

Well, I have to say, I’ve found very little inspiration in the shops lately, but I did find a few nice accessories for my summer wardrobe. All from M&S apart from the sunglasses which were from River Island. I’m am loving the hat.

It’s true that neutral accessories are a great investment as they go with so many colours and fabric patterns and therefore get far more use. I will be wearing each of these for years on sunny days in the UK and on holiday ☀️🕶️

Hack My Wardrobe (pt 10)

‘The proof is in the pudding’

When choosing a personal stylist, people often look for a stylist whose physical appearance or fashion style resembles their own, however a good stylist can cater fur all shapes, sizes, physical characteristics and style personalities.

So today, I’m showing a outfit ‘that ‘by the book’ would suit someone who has a light, delicate look (e.g. blonde hair, light complexion and light eyes). This individual looks great in pastel colours (even when worn top-to-toe). This is in contrast to my look, which is deep (dark eyes and dark hair) and looks best in colours that have strength and depth.

I’ve deliberately removed my face from images (as pastels top-to-toe can wash me out) so that I can demonstrate an outfit suited to someone whose physical characteristics are very different to mine.

The tonal colour assessment system (which I use for colour analysis) has six dominant categories as follows:
Deep, Light, Warm, Cool, Clear and Soft
This outfit is ideal for Lights.

I have to say, I love this look. It’s fresh, simple and elegant. I’ve accessorised with old stuff: N**e shoes, soft white bag and pearl stud earrings.

I think it would make a fabulous race day or wedding outfit. You could add a hat or fascinator to really make an entrance or for a more relaxed event wear platform pumps or flat sandals.

Have a great day 🥰x

Hack My Wardrobe (9)

It’s like wearing sunshine!

I’m sure you’ll agree, nothing is more mood-boosting than wearing a colourful sunny day outfit.

So for those of you who enjoy florals, you are going to love this dress. It’s pretty, floaty and full of beautiful, mood enhancing colours.

An ombre print with flutter sleeves, side tie belt and a dreamy chiffon pleated skirt that floats with every step you take. A romantic look combines eleglance and femininity to bring a smile to any face.

Dress - Love & Roses (current)
Blazer - Next (current )
Platform Pumps - Zara (old)
Heels - Linzi (old)

This outfit is perfect for special occasions. Dress up for a wedding or races with a hat or fascinator, or simple wear on holiday or for afternoon tea with sandals or pumps.

I can’t decide what I like best, strappy heels or pumps. Which do you prefer?

Colour Analysis, It just works…

My lovely client Steph has kindly given permission for me to share images of her colour analysis experience. Doesn’t she look stunning wearing her deep cool palette.

If you look at the comparison example (second image) you can clearly see when Steph wears light pastel colours they are far less favourable than the colours that have more depth. This is because deep colours work in harmony with her natural characteristics (dark hair and dark eyes).

The pastels are draining making her skin appear sallow, as opposed to more flattering colours where her complexion appears radiant and healthy and her eyes have more clarity and definition.

Such a wonderful example of the effectiveness and positive results of colour analysis.

Hack My Wardrobe (8)

Today’s look continues my theme of mixing old (military coat and trousers) with new (stripe top and bag from M&S).
Stripe tops are everywhere at the moment and I love the red bag with the detachable stripe strap, it’s a real statement piece and will look great with white jeans in the summer.

Navy is a great neutral, very flattering and suits everyone. It’s just a case of choosing to he right navy for your colour palette. I’ve gone with a classic navy, but try a French navy if your look is more delicate and light.

I’m taking a break next week, so I’ll see you after the Easter Holidays.

Have a wonderful Easter everyone xx

‘Sporty Chic’

Popularized by celebs and style icons, this casual, effortlessly trendy street style combines sporty and city-chic elements together in one outfit.

Have you ever put on sports wear, looked in the mirror and thought of Kevin and Perry? I know I have🤣 Well, here’s my top tips on how to pull of the sporty chic look at any age.

1. Buy trendy joggers that have a touch of chic - maybe a stripe down the side

2. Try a baseball cap (but def don’t wear it back-to-front!)

3. By pumps like Nikes or high street ones like these from M&S - simple non-fussy style. Maybe Zips instead of laces. Russell & Bromley Park-ups are great, or for cheaper get Moda in Pelle. Buy in neutral colours for longevity

4. Chic it up with a blazer, or satin top (like I have)

5. Try a statement T-shirt wth a brand logo or cool graphic

6. Avoid crop tops and low rise joggers if wearing them creates the ‘donut effect’

7. If you don’t have a flat tummy, buy drawstring or even ‘up-size’. Avoid tight waistbands that make your hips expand by two sizes!

8. Dress your bodyshape. Wear light colours on your smaller areas and deep colours on the parts you want to disguise

9. Add a crossbody bag or bum bag (wear diagonally from shoulder)

10. Accessorise - try aviator glasses, and a simple chain T-bone necklace and bracelet

To get the best help, book a style consultation to discover the best shape clothes and fabrics for your shape, height and frame.

Happy styling 🥰x

‘Understated Elegance’

I just love cosy dressing that makes you feel calm and comforted on the inside yet still delivers on style on the outside. A luxuriously soft and warm look offering understated elegance. This outfit definitely hits the brief when it comes to simplicity and chic.

Throw on a sumptuously soft jumper (a little oversized) and let the sleeves hang over your hands, exhale and relax in style and comfort.

To elevate an outfit, try one of my favourite neutrals ‘champagne gold’ for a plush look that will transform even the most casual of outfits. Add a touch of bling to your pumps and bag for added glamour.

*Jumper - Sosander (this season)
*Maxi skirt - Emma Willis (old)
*Pumps - Rieker (old)
*Bag -River Island (old)

Hack My Wardrobe (5)

Colours are so connected to our subconscious. Whether it’s through social conditioning or an innate intuitive response, we seem to have expectations from specific colours and judge others by the colours they are wearing.

Today, I’m wearing mainly red. Red is said to be a very emotional colour. According to colour psychology, red is associated with confidence (among other things like passion, love and anger).

Did you know that we can all wear red? It’s just a case of choosing the right tone and shade to suit you.

As for me today, I simply wanted to wear something bright, cheerful and comfortable. I’m busy on my feet all day, so the platform pumps will be perfect. The boot cut trousers are soft, with pockets, again quite relaxed by style.

The blouse fabric consists of red, pink, purple and lilac, so I’m looking forward to seeing what else I can do with it in the future.

I just love wearing colour. You really can express yourself through it, and certainly use it to help elevate your look and feel uplifted.

So if you need a easy pick-me-up, want to stand out at work or even at a social occasion, maybe it’s time to add more colours like red to your wardrobe, so you can shine and stand out. You don’t have to go all out with colour like me, just a pop of colour in a scarf or handbag is a good enough.

‘Sleek’ Styling

Nothing is more chic than a minimal look that appears effortless but oozes style. One that has a streamline edge and transcends time and trends.

A simple base colour of teal, styled with a neutral coat or jacket. Great for in and out of work. Dress down with pumps or chunky boots and a cross body bag, dress up with shimmering champagne gold - a clutch bag, stappy high heels and simple dangling earrings.

There’s no room for fuss, just simplicity and elegance.

The long coat is the same coat shown in Hack my Warbrobe (1) just with the faux fur collar removed. I’ve shown it with fur too just so you can see both looks.

Have a great week ladies x

‘Hack My Wardrobe’ 2023 (3)

Mix & Match Theory

I have to say, when I launched this year’s ‘Hack My Wardrobe’ I was a little anxious as I haven’t bought many new clothes over the past year to help create new outfits.

It just goes to show when you know your colours and how to wear them, and you build your wardrobe based on your colour palette, you soon start to find clothes mix and match really easily.

Of course, there is an initial cost with colour analysis/personal styling, but once you’ve had it done, if you apply your new knowledge and skills you quickly begin to reap the benefits, and here are just a few:

1- You get your initial investment back very quickly simply by saving copious amounts of money once wasted on purchases that you never or barely wear or clotted that date quickly

2- You spend far less time stressing about what to wear to work, social occasions or when doing everyday chores like the school run

3- Your clothes fit and the colours bring out the best in your look

4- You feel happier, more confident, motivated and excited to be you

So today I’m showing you examples of my mix & match theory. The outfit shown is based on my previous post but duplicated using a black and white theme (with a touch of orange for an injection of colour). I’ve also dapted the look using a belt, chunky boots and a leather jacket.

The longer coat and the dress are the same style as Tuesday’s post just in different colours. It literally took me just a few minutes to pull these looks together. I particularly love the pink against the black and white as another alternative.

So ladies, when you buy new clothes always consider the mix & match’ theory. It really works.

Vanessa xx

Morning All

Well I’m fairly certain I’m not the only person fed up with wet cloudy days, so as I’m meeting a friend for coffee today I thought I would go all out with colour.

It’s amazing how our outfit choices are so determined by season and weather conditions and how easily we turn to darker colours largely due to how we feel, but I just love a pop of colour on a grey day to make me feel joyful and uplifted.

Each of these items I use all year round.
(you’ve seen them before just styled with different clothes). In the summer I wear the dress with pumps/sandals and the coat with white jeans, so they’ve proved a good investment and get plenty of use.

Have a colourful day ladies xx

P.S. I can’t decide on which bag looks the best, which do you prefer?
