An International Law Enforcement operation to disrupt the activities of a gang of cyber-criminals distributing what Europol described as “the world’s most dangerous malware” has reached the Isle of Man.

In a great piece of international co-operation involving Europol, InterPol the UK National Crime Agency and the Isle of Man Constabulary working with the Isle of Man Government’s Office of Cyber-Security & Information Assurance (OCSIA) evidence discovered during the operation was able to be traced to an infected device on the Isle of Man.

OCSIA, with assistance from the local Internet Service provider managed to trace the customer who had been on line during the Manx Circuit Breaker and provide them with the advice and guidance needed to check their devices and transaction services for anomalies.

This is just one example of how law enforcement and cyber-security teams are co-operating to disrupt the criminal campaigns and makes us all realise it is not just a problem somewhere other than the Isle of Man. We all need to operate safely and securely when using the internet and its services.
