The actual act of buying something remains stubbornly, gloriously, infuriatingly human.

Why? Because humans are messy. We’re emotional. We’re irrational. And we’re wired to connect.

16/12/2025

Somewhere between “automate everything” and “just let the AI write it,” a few tiny details went missing...

Like:

Who you are.

Why people love you.

Why anyone should care that your product exists and not the 47 identical ones “feature-parity-ing” their way around LinkedIn.

In the AI stampede, everyone’s busy plugging shiny tools into their stack, and quietly forgetting the only thing the robots can’t knock off:

Your brand as a living, breathing, human premium.

You know, the bit where people feel something.

I'm so old now, I remember when data was data, not 'modelled', not 'estimated'. Not “it’s kind of in the vibe of the numbers." 🤣

We saw how good it could be. Fifteen years ago, tracking could be within a breath. You could measure the customer journey with the kind of precision that made CFOs purr and founders feel like omniscient little goblins.

And yes, some people used that power in a nefarious way. The internet has always been an equal mix of innovation and “how can I be a menace at scale?”

04/12/2025

Is tracking dying… or is everyone just quietly giving up?

Somewhere between privacy pop‑ups, AI overviews, and yet another analytics dashboard update, a lot of companies quietly made the same decision:

Tracking is hard now. Let’s not worry about it too much.

27/11/2025

“It’s for Privacy”… Said the company selling you more ads...

Every year Google quietly takes a little more visibility away and hands you a reassuring line about “privacy” while nudging you harder towards… paid media.

Once upon a time, you could log into Google Analytics and see which organic keywords were driving traffic and conversions.

Then came the infamous (not provided) era, dressed up as a privacy win:

“We’re protecting users.”

“Keyword data is sensitive.”

“This is about security.”

Cool story.

Except:

Google still had the data.

Advertisers still got ultra-granular insight via Google Ads.

The “privacy” wall went up on the free organic side… while the paid side stayed conveniently better lit.

Magically, the more insight you wanted, the more you needed to… pay.

Totally unrelated to revenue, of course.

Between GDPR, ePrivacy, and Google’s Consent Mode, getting users to actually agree to tracking feels like trying to herd cats through a laser grid. It’s messy, it’s complicated, and it’s eating into your precious data...

By applying CRO techniques as Matt suggests here, you can actively improve your data quality.

This enables:

Richer Analytics

A more accurate picture of user behaviour, traffic sources, and conversion paths.

Smarter Optimisation

Your A/B tests and CRO experiments become more reliable.

Stronger Attribution

You can better connect marketing efforts to actual business outcomes.

Happier CFOs

Because you can finally show a clearer line between your marketing spend and their bottom line.

Marketers are absolute geniuses at one thing: inventing new ways to declare victory...

CTR up 12%.
Share of voice up.
Engagement through the roof.
SEO visibility “trending positively.”

Cool. But did anyone make more money?

Attribution is a mess, so we build micro goals to feel secure. Micro goals are fine as diagnostics. The problem is when we start presenting them like they’re outcomes.

19/11/2025

Since the EU cookie legislation and GDPR came in, we’ve all had to play by stricter rules. Add Google’s Consent Mode into the mix, and we’re now in a world where:

Users get more control (good).

Marketers and analysts get more guessing (less good).

I've not myself seen a site with 80-90% cookie acceptance, but Matt gives me hope with this!

I'm interested to hear what your cookie acceptance rates look like.

18/11/2025

The dreaded phrase echoes through the halls of your office: “Nobody implemented it.” Cue the horror movie music...

It’s the classic tale of a marketing audit or improvement plan that gets filed away, gathering dust while a business continues to flounder...

It's an absolute pleasure to introduce our next guest on the Bear Business Podcast, the magnificent technical SEO extraordinaire Matthew Jones from Seven Hills Search ...

In this episode, Matt shares his extensive experience in the marketing field, discussing his transition from in-house roles to freelancing.

He emphasises the importance of technical SEO as the foundation for effective online presence, detailing the challenges of integrating SEO early in the website development process.

Matt explains the significance of conducting thorough technical audits and measuring success through tangible business outcomes, such as increased revenue and lead generation.
