Sometimes a website is lost. Sometimes there isn’t even a backup to restore.

That was the situation Mairead came to me with.

She had previously had a WordPress website where she published pieces about her travels and her interest in different cultures.

But the domain had long since been lost and was up for auction. The original WordPress website was gone. She didn’t have the website files and there was no backup.

Years of writing looked as though they had disappeared with it.

Fortunately, I knew where to look.

I was able to find an archived version of the old website, retrieve Mairead’s articles and then build her a new WordPress website so that her writing had a home again.

Mairead kindly sent me this afterwards:

“As a technophobe who likes to write pieces about my travels, Elliot was a great help in retrieving all my pieces lost when my domain name was put up for auction.

He helped me to negotiate the wonders of technology with expertise and patience.

I am now more determined to get my site out there and make contact with others who are interested in travel and culture, in the knowledge that I have someone I can rely on when I get into technical difficulties.

I would highly recommend Elliot as I think he is very committed to what he does. He provided a very personal service, which is such a rarity these days, and his fees are fair.” - Mairead Ryan

Really pleased to see Mairead’s writing back online.

And a useful reminder: if you’ve lost an old website and no longer have the files or a backup, don’t automatically assume everything is gone. Sometimes, with a bit of digging, there’s more that can be recovered than you might think.

A couple of years ago, I created a custom GPT for my book, Game Change (Life Led Business).

If you haven’t done this before, you can upload your original written material as a knowledge source and configure the A.i. to draw on only that material when answering your questions.

This means you can interrogate your own material, asking questions and getting tailored answers based on the knowledge and insights within it.

At the time, I was quite pleased with myself and how it worked, but then it got put on a mental ‘shelf’ somewhere in my mind.

As I’m bringing back the Game Change (Life Led Business) workshops, I thought I’d revisit it. My prompt today was:

“What business questions apply most to this material?”
See the image for the result.

If one of those questions resonates with you, and you still need an answer, send me a message and I’ll let you know about the next Game Change workshop.

Or, if you prefer, send me a question about your business and I’ll put it to the Game Change GPT and send you back its response.

Sunday morning walk in Bude. It’s still very quiet before 10am.

Summerleaze Beach, Bude Canal and the Bude Marshes.

My late father-in-law and my mother-in-law owned and ran the Falcon Hotel for over 25 years, so there are many family memories walking past here. I also did a lot of work in their function rooms and wrote the book Game Change (Life Led Business) in their residents’ lounge back in 2014 - like you do!

There are so many amazing possible venues for the first Game Change strategy workshop in Bude. The Castle in Bude also has an amazing glass room overlooking the beach, so that’s tempting too (it’s in the background of one of the photos).

Anyway, wherever it’s held, it will be a wonderful day, with all of this right outside the door while we work together.

If you’re interested, pop me a message.

I received this email after a 1-2-1 coaching session last week.

I particularly liked David’s description of managing to “kill six birds from one stone in one session”, because that’s actually a pretty good description of how my coaching sessions tend to work.

I don’t really advertise my coaching, even though I’ve always done it over the past 25 years. And I don’t have a rigid coaching process.

Instead, we start with what’s happening right now. It might be a problem that’s been worrying you, a decision you need to make, something technical you don’t understand, or an idea you want to explore. Sometimes there are even six ‘birds’ flying aroundaround at the same time that need landing safely!

And we work through it together.

Often that’s me sharing my experience of what I’ve seen work in practice, along with new ideas. I’ll also demonstrate how to do something so you can make the changes yourself, as we did in this session. That can make reaching the destination much more cost effective than simply delegating everything to a consultant.

Plus, if something gets technically complicated, I’ll frequently just step in and do that bit, as it’s often far quicker to do than explain.

The aim is simply to finish the session further towards the end goal than when we started. In this case, that’s an event marketing campaign in the autumn.

And along the way, I try to pass on as much knowledge as I can.

David has already agreed to be a case study, so once we’ve completed the coaching I’ll share some more details.

For now, if you’d like this kind of support in your business, do get in touch. I enjoy the work immensely.

It’s my birthday today. Which means I’ve been in business for 26 years. I don’t know what possessed me back then to start a business on my birthday, but it seemed like a good idea at the time. I won’t bore you with a Odyssey-like history of what’s happened since then but the headline is, I’m still here, doing what I enjoy, which i certainly hadn’t even dreamt of back then. And for any start up, the truth is I had no clue whatsoever back then, just a lot of belief which is often enough to begin with. if I had my time again, I would ask for a lot more advice and help from others. For some reason as a start up I had it in my mind that I must do everything myself and ask for no help. Ironic when you consider what I do for a living. Lots of mistakes early on that could easily have been avoided, Always ask for help - 99 percent of people want to share and support. I learnt to be a consultant by asking businesses how they do things, not reading books. Anyway, thought I’d better mark the event in some way, so here’s a picture of me in that first year from the Eastern Daily Press newspaper. And a more recent one of me in Bude, where I plan to spend a quiet day with the family. Back to work tomorrow… Have a great day.

Working in Tintagel today. It’s been a VERY Cornwall day so far! Still managed to launch a new Shopify website, a new WordPress website, set up a social media process, and untangled a Google Analytics set up for people. It never. ceases to amaze what you can do anywhere, if you have a wifi connection and a laptop. Ps. I’m no historian or expert, but I’ve got doubts that’s the real Sword in the Stone ;) Although I’ve watched a least a dozen kids trying to pull it out with all their might, so it may be. None have them have been knighted yet. have a great weekend!

On Sunday spent time at Cardiff Castle grounds with 10,000 people watching David Byrne. On Monday spent some alone time with a curious Robin at the wonderful Marwood Hill Garden in North Devon. The perfect antidote to a hectic 24 hours. Hope you’re week is going well.
