Wardrobe dilemmas ….

Last week, the weather felt more like early Spring - out came the light knitwear to warm up. This week, we have had the hottest heatwave on record for May! It can certainly be a dilemma planning our wardrobes for the very changeable weather we are experiencing these days.

In changeable climates, we need a winter wardrobe, in between season wardrobe and summer wardrobe, including workwear and a personal and/or social wardrobe! This can seem like hard work and lead to a bulging wardrobe and then not knowing what to wear each day!

Building a capsule wardrobe is the answer! With neutrals as the basis of your wardrobe such as for trousers, shorts and skirts you can add interest choosing tops, blouses, shirts and knitwear in your fashion colours. The result? A cohesive capsule wardrobe where multiple outfits co-ordinate effortlessly every day for the changeable, and sometimes extreme, weather we experience. And my top tip for negotiating the changeable weather is layering - cotton tops with cardigans, dresses with cardigans or a denim jacket for an extra layer. And always remember a reliable rain jacket and umbrella, just in case!

Get in touch if you need help organising your wardrobe - my Wardrobe Edit is just the service for you! My colour consultation will inform you which best shades to go for and my style consultation will teach you how to wear the correct styles of clothes to suit your height, scale, proportions and body shape.

We can now look forward to warmer longer days and enjoy wearing our summer dresses again. A summer dress is a staple in our wardrobes, whether in a plain block neutral or accent colour or with a beautiful floral design. When choosing a dress for summer, consider your style personality and invest in a style that complements this aspect of your personal image. For example,

💜 Creatives will enjoy a vintage dress

⭐️ Dramatics will love a dress in a statement accent colour and style

💜 Romantics will love pretty floral patterns with frills, bows and ruffles

⭐️ Classics will prefer a classic shape that is timeless and easy to wear year after year

💜 Naturals will want a dress in a simple style that is easy to put on and she can wear with flat shoes such as trainers or ballet pumps

⭐️ City Chics will chose a style that is current and in one of her neutral colours, that is timeless and elegant.

With the temperatures set to soar over the next few days, it's time to get your sunglasses ready. When buying new sunglasses (and glasses) it can be overwhelming knowing which style to go when there is so much choice.

I always advise my clients to choose a frame opposite their face shape. Generally, angular styles balance a round face, while rounder shapes soften a square jawline and forehead.

For colour, trust your swatch wallet. There are so many fun shades in there! And as for metals, match these to your skin’s undertone – silver for cool tones, and gold for warm.

And remember to choose a style, shape and colour that suits your style personality so you feel completely yourself wearing them.

The holiday season is almost here and some of us will be thinking about and planning our wardrobes for our holidays. It is very easy to create a holiday capsule wardrobe. My step-by-step guide will help you achieve this and also help keep luggage to a minimum.

💜 Choose one or two neutral colours from your colour palette as the basis of your holiday wardrobe, for example navy blue and white

⭐️ Choose trousers, shorts and skirts in these neutral colours

💜 Add colour using your favourite accent or fashion colours, for example dresses, T-shirts, blouses, tops, cardigans and jumpers in pink and blue. To make a statement, opt for a pair of trousers or skirt in an accent colour and combine with a top in a neutral colour

⭐️ Choose one other colour for added impact and variety such as red or green

💜 Choose your shoes and accessories (handbags, scarves, hats and umbrella) to co-ordinate with your outfits

⭐️ Choose one lightweight waterproof jacket to take with you in case it rains. And pack a small umbrella!

Remember to also consider the activities you will be doing on your holiday and choose clothes, shoes and accessories that will suit those activities.

One important tip is to try on your swimwear in advance of your holiday to check it still fits and is suitable for you. If your current swimwear no longer fits, now is the ideal time to shop for new swimwear as retailers have plenty of new stock in all sizes.

Have a fantastic holiday ⭐️💜!

Neutral colours - although these might seem boring, actually I see them as the foundation of your wardrobe. Every colour palette has a selection of fantastic neutral colours. And these neutral colours will help you create different outfits effortlessly. Combine neutral colours together; co-ordinate neutral colours with your fashion colours; buy a staple coat in one of your neutral colours for maximum versatility; choose one or two neutral colours as the foundation of your holiday wardrobe to help create multiple outfits and keep luggage to a minimum. When your basics are strong, the rest of your wardrobe falls into place and you will have a capsule wardrobe that is easy to select outfits from everyday.

Winter has felt longer this year, but it does now feel that Spring has arrived. Now is the ideal time to give your winter wardrobe a quick edit whilst you can remember exactly which clothes you have worn this winter.

💜 Look through your winter clothes and keep items of clothing you have worn through the winter this year. Make sure they are clean as you put them away including coats and blazers that need dry cleaning.

💜 Mend any clothes that need buttons sewn on or holes in jumpers. These will be completely ready for next Autumn/Winter.

💜 Now look through the winter clothes you haven’t worn. Think about why you haven’t worn them - perhaps the fit isn’t quite right? Not quite the right colour or style for you? Doesn’t work for your lifestyle anymore? Consider donating these to charity or selling on Vinted to become someone else’s much loved item of clothing.

Your winter wardrobe will now be ready for you for later this year.

I welcomed two clients to my studio on Saturday for a joint colour consultation. Both mother and daughter thoroughly enjoyed discovering the colours that suit them. One client is a Warm suiting yellow based colours and the other a Cool suiting blue based colours, so quite different. It just shows how important it is to have a live colour consultation as even two members of the same family can be completely different.

As a Colour Me Beautiful Image Consultant, I use the tonal colour analysis system and I look at the skintone, eye colour and hair colour of each client and how these three aspects work together to determine their precise colour analysis. The more modern and in depth tonal colour analysis system is so accurate and both my clients absolutely loved their swatch wallets full of amazing colours that look fantastic on them! Just look at how beautiful my client looks in her Warm colours!
