Could your spring skincare routine use a softer reset?

In our May issue of Handpicked eMagazine, we look at spring skincare from a wellbeing angle, focusing on simple ways to help your skin feel calmer, fresher and more comfortable as the season changes.

After months of central heating, colder weather and dull days, spring can feel like the perfect time to refresh your routine. This feature is not about chasing perfect skin or adding endless products, but about gentle seasonal skincare, healthy habits and feeling more at ease in your own skin.

Are old-fashioned favourites making a proper comeback?

In our May issue of Handpicked eMagazine, we look at the return of old-fashioned favourites and why traditional food is finding its way back onto our plates.

From familiar puddings and proper home cooking to comforting dishes that once felt a little out of date, this feature explores why classic recipes are being welcomed again with genuine fondness. It is food that feels familiar, comforting and full of memory, without needing to be dressed up as something it is not.

Is doing everything yourself starting to cost too much?

In our May issue of Handpicked eMagazine, we look at the shift from doing everything yourself to learning how to let go.

Being the person who handles it all can feel productive at first, from emails and invoices to plans, problems and all the little jobs no one else sees. But over time, constant responsibility can turn into quiet exhaustion.

This feature explores why letting go is not about doing less well, but about creating more space, balance and breathing room.

A messy house doesn’t mean you’re failing.

Sometimes survival leaves receipts, crumbs, and three mugs in odd locations.

Sometimes the laundry wins.

Sometimes the kitchen side becomes a paperwork habitat.

Sometimes the “quick tidy” turns into standing in one room holding a sock with no clear mission.

That does not mean you are lazy.
It does not mean you are behind.

It means you are human, tired, busy, stretched, healing, parenting, working, grieving, coping, or simply doing your best with what you’ve got today.

Clear one tiny thing.
Or don’t.

You are still worthy in the mess.

North Yorkshire mother-daughter jewellery brand heads to John Lewis Newcastle

What started as a kitchen table idea in North Yorkshire is about to step onto a much bigger stage.

Mother and daughter team Karen Jones and Emma Lindsay launched NinetyOne Jewellery just six months ago, inspired by a shared love of jewellery-making that began when Emma was growing up. Now, their small-batch jewellery brand has been selected for a pop-up at John Lewis Newcastle from 1st to 7th June.

The name NinetyOne has a lovely story behind it too. When the business idea began, Karen was 60 and Emma was 31. Together, that made NinetyOne.

Every piece is hand-finished by Karen in small batches from their North Yorkshire studio, with collections designed to feel stylish, versatile and personal. Many pieces can also be engraved, adding names, dates, initials or private messages to necklaces, bracelets and charms.

Visitors to the John Lewis Newcastle pop-up can meet Karen and Emma, browse exclusive pieces, enjoy spring and summer styling advice, take part in in-store jewellery personalisation and enter special giveaways.

A beautiful reminder that new chapters can begin at any age, and sometimes they come with rather excellent accessories.

Why is May the best time for British asparagus?

In our May issue of Handpicked eMagazine, we celebrate one of spring’s finest seasonal ingredients: British asparagus.

With its short season, fresh flavour and unmistakable arrival on farm stalls, restaurant menus and in local shops, British asparagus is one of those rare foods that still feels properly seasonal. This feature looks at why May is the perfect month to enjoy it while it is at its best.

You Don’t Have To Look Ready To Be Ready

You are not required to be polished to be powerful.

A creased shirt, a tired face, and a brave decision still make quite the trio.

There is so much pressure to look calm, capable, prepared, rested, organised and perfectly put together before we take the next step.

But real courage often looks far more ordinary than that.

- It looks like sending the email.
- Having the conversation.
- Making the decision.
- Walking into the room.
- Trying again after a difficult week.

You do not need to look flawless to be strong. You do not need to feel fearless to be brave. Sometimes the most powerful version of you is simply the one who turns up anyway.

Could flower show season inspire your next garden update?

In our May issue of Handpicked E-Magazine, In the Garden with Camilla Grayley Garden Design looks at the start of flower show season, from Harrogate Spring Show to RHS Malvern and Chelsea Flower Show.

It is the perfect time to gather garden ideas, spot planting trends and think about how our own outdoor spaces can evolve. This month, the focus is on sustainable garden design, including working with existing patios, mature trees, shrubs and favourite plants rather than starting again from scratch.
