COCOBOD pushes back against cocoa farm intercropping claims over new bill
The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), Dr Randy Abbey, has dismissed claims that the proposed Cocoa Board Bill 2026 will prevent cocoa farmers from growing food crops alongside their cocoa trees. According to him, the controversy surrounding the Bill is being fuelled by misinformation and does not reflect the intention of the proposed reforms. Dr Abbey said the legislation is instead designed to address some of the longstanding problems confronting Ghana’s cocoa industry, including the destruction of cocoa farms, financing challenges, weak financial controls, low levels of domestic processing and poor returns for farmers....
