Problem: A new-born animal is not breathing.

Some new-born animals are very weak, especially after a difficult birth. They often have much fluid in their lungs that stops them breathing normally.

So after parturation you have to do these

1. If the baby is having difficulty breathing, hang it upside down. Rub the chest to make
any fluid in the lungs come out of the nose.

2. Lift the new-born animal up by the back
legs for a minute or so to let mucus and
fluid drain out from the lungs. You can
hold the back legs of a small animal
and swing it round to make mucus
come out of the nose.

3. Put the new-born animal over the back
of its mother with its head down to
help fluid drain out from the lungs.

4. Put a piece of dry grass up the baby
animal's nose. This makes it cough then
it starts breathing.

5. Make sure the baby animal sucks its
mother's teat as soon as possible. When
the mother feels a baby sucking, her
brain releases a hormone called oxytocin
into her blood that makes milk flow
from the udder. It also makes the uterus
contract and push the placenta out.

THE UNCARED NATURE OF FARMERS/LACK OF TRAINING/EDUCATION OR ALL OF THE UNDER LISTED .

On the 6/11/2021 i bought two matured female rabbits (does) from a farmer. I bought those rabbits through a friend who knows this farmer. He told me how well and healthy his rabbits are. His rabbits are highly productive that he added. They litter from 6 to 12 thereabout, and that really caught my attention.

As we entered into his farm i saw really good breeds that looked really healthy in my eyes. Because i was so eager to want to see my farm grow so fast, i asked him to get me a rabbit that has littered before (a old mother) and a fresh/ young doe which he did. After getting them, i realized that one of them had a problem in the eye. I asked and he told me they fought and she got wounded . So i brought them home, isolated them and treated them for 3 days.

Few months later i noticed the farmer gave me a wrong information, why, because the one that was spotted with the eye problem had one side of it's eye swollen with some white fluid coming out of the eye. I invited my veterinary doctor and he prescribed some drugs and gave her some injunctions. but all treatment didn't seem to be working, so she was removed from the farm. But later i saw that she already has infected one of my rabbits, if not all of them. And i am currently battling treatment of one who is in critical condition.

Note, from experience, i advised that we should always take keen interest in seeing or getting information on a rabbit before buying. Ask for all the important information you want know before taking a decision to want to buy or not want to buy. Do not buy a rabbit because you have the money or because you want to. Let's stop taking the risk.

Lastly..... please do not sell your rabbits when you know too well that it has a problem. You are likely going to destroy someone farm and that will be cruel and selfish.

"Fur mites, or "walking dandruff," affect mainly rabbits, but also guinea pigs, hedgehogs, rodents, cats, and dogs. Although an uncommon host for the mite, these mites can also be transmitted to humans. The mites are nonburrowing skin parasites. On close observation of an infested pet, movement of the dandruff is visible caused by the mites moving underneath the scales. There are different species of fur mites that cross over and infest all pets and others that are specific to certain animals."

I shall continue with types of mites.....

"Mites are tiny bugs in the tick and spider family. They get blamed for a lot of mysterious itching or biting symptoms because they are so tiny and hard to spot. There are thousands of different species of mites, and each species has different eating, biting, and bloodsucking habits."

Rabbits like to eat green plants, and note, fresh plants are best. However, during the times of year when there are few fresh plants, you can feed your rabbits with dry plants (hay).

Remember, if you want your rabbits to grow well and fast, you will have to feed them with some rich food as well.

When you were looking for rabbits to buy, you saw what they were being fed. So you should have an idea of what food they eat.

*🐰Some Consideration on Feeding🌾*

🐰Fresh grasses or legumes should be included in the ration to a level of 70%.

🐰50% legumes plus 50% grasses may afford minimum dietary requirement for resting does and bucks.

🐰Dustiness of mash should be avoided by adding water to moisten the feed slightly.

🐰Prevent feed from becoming sour, since sour feed is not liked by rabbit.

🐰Clean and fresh water should be made available at all times. 

🐰Does should not be fed with heavy diet right after kidding. 

🐰Feed of does should be increased after 5 - 7 days after kidding.

🐰Abrupt change in the quality or quantity of feed should be avoided.

🐰Molasses at the rate of 5% should be added to the diet to increase acceptability of the diet. 

🐰A small quantity of hay/straw should be fed in addition to the compound feed to prevent boredom and to provide bulk. 

🐰Rapeseed oil meal should be heated before inclusion in the diet. It should be fed below 15% levels in diet. 

🐰High calcium diet may interfere with the acceptance of does to the offspring and thus may affect the growth of the litters, therefore diet should not contain excess calcium. 

🐰Dry does, bucks and replacement stock should be fed once a day at the rate of 100 - 120gm of pellet feeds. 

🐰Young rabbits in growing stages and lactating does should be free fed by keeping grain/pellets in the feeder at all times. 
🐰Good quality legumes should be kept before the rabbits in addition to pellet ration. 

🐰Carrots, Green grass, Spinach, Turnip, Lucerne, barseem etc. should be provided as is a good succulent feed for rabbits. 

🐰Other feed stuffs such as kitchen wastes, spoilt milk, damaged fruits may be fed by small-holder farmers, but they should be fed with caution considering their deleterious effects.

Good day all.

PZfarms did made an indication of writing on so benefits/profit levels of rabbitry.

Let's layout some foundation to that effect.

Rabbitry is a serious business venture and before will profit from this type of business, you need to always grow serious love for them (affection) for them. By that serious monitoring and observations can be done as expected. Your must be sustainable. One of the main bases of this sustainability is the profitability of the farm. Proper steps must be considered at all times if we really want to keep in track of happenings in our farms. These simply steps include gathering data. ie, you should know how much you bought each rabbit, number of males and females, feeds and etc ,do observe their rate of production and compare your rate of growth to other other farms, so that you can make decisions, and evaluate the consequences of changes.

you must always have a template to keep every detail of progress in your farm.
