Why do we accept answers from ChatGPT?
A 1999 experiment provides the answer.

From experts to juniors, people tend not only to accept, but to feel impressed by LLM results.
↳ We research
↳ We analyze
↳ We make decisions based on those results.

But, what if this is just a bias we fall into?

The 1999 experiment:
Researchers Kathleen R. Mosier and Linda J. Skitka coined the term automation bias after a series of flight simulation studies revealed that pilots performed worse when using an automated tool that provided recommendations than when they relied on their own knowledge and expertise. They found that participants in the automated group missed things that the system didn’t alert them to, resulting in 59% task accuracy, compared to a 97% accuracy for participants in the non-automated group. [The Decision Lab]

Make your own experiment:
If you are completely confident in a topic, and you try every kind of best prompt—written by people, by AI, the best frameworks, shorter or larger versions— you will find out that too many important things are missing.

It's not about rejecting the technology.
It's about using it wisely.

Because using it for decision-making or marketing purposes can cost you loyalty, trust and reputation.

↳ Use it wisely
↳ Leverage its strengths
↳ Don't rely on it.

How customers behave in-store and how online:

According to Adyen:
45% of Gen Z spend more in-store vs 37% online
44% of Millennials spend in-store vs 34% online
48% of Gen X spend more in-store vs 28% online
53% of Baby Boomers spend more in-store vs 27% online
61% of the Silent Generation spend more in-store vs 14% online

What's happening right now is that customers are already 'trained' by digital experiences—filters, search bars and easy-to-find options— so in-store experiences that win are those who prevent what we call 'decision fatigue'.

When customers have too many options, they can experience the paradox of choice–they are paralyzed by too many options, resulting in decision fatigue, resulting in just leaving.

What kind of SMEs grow and how?
Not what big brands do, but how they become big in the first place.

We have worked with small to mid-sized brands for over a decade.
And their potential?
It's never about their products or price.

It's their customer support, physical store experience, brand identity and people. These are marketing too.

When a marketer adds a competitive advantage to your strategy they don't imagine or assume, they reframe what's already there.

More often than not, the real issue is the process, not the budget.

3 misconceptions about marketing strategy

“ I need a marketing strategy for my next campaign”

Marketing strategy is not seperately for each tactic or campaign. It’s about your entire business, product or brand. Marketing strategies are built on market research, data, metrics, and models. The reason you need a marketing strategy is to prevent emotional decision-making.

“Marketing strategy is about choosing channels and tactics”

In marketing strategy you define your stakeholders, direction and positioning. Channels are vehicles, not directions. Research from the Ehrenberg-Bass Institute shows that brands grow through recognizability, mental availability, and repetition. Consistency in your core brand isn't a nice-to-have, but essential for growth.

“Marketing is external and about customers”

Marketing is about all stakeholders—customers, employees, partners, etc. A strategy that doesn't work internally always remains a bit of a theatrical effort externally.

Most teams focus on FAQs to increase AI citations.
But that’s not the only solution.

70% of customers want to optimize loylaty points. This means customers aren’t just asking AI questions—they’re asking for advantages.

So, what if, loyalty programms can become your new discovery ‘channel’…

In most industries, loyalty programs are:
→ Poorly documented
→ Hidden behind logins
→ Treated as post-purchase perks

This enhances the possibility to be cited on AI.
But how exactly loyalty programms help you grow?

Loyalty programms boost retention and referrals, which increase LTV and AOV.
Customers stay longer with you over time and spend more more each time they buy.

Customers often respond to rewards transactionally, not emotionally.

So, if you leverage loyalty programms for awareness and retention you can increase profits long-term.

More on Loyalty Programms soon.

Creativity kills conversions.

Sounds absurb, but one of the main reasons that can lower conversions, is creativity.

You fixed your design. It's:
↳ creative
↳ unique
↳ aligned with your brand identity

But conversions still under 2%. Why?

Simplicity is missing.
I personally love art, but, we like it or not, conversions need simplicity.

UX matters more than creativity. No matter how artistic your audience is, clarity always wins.

Here's a way to start:
Creativity on | off — National Gallery of Art gives users the option "Animations on/off".

Another effective way to improve conversions is to test a simplicity-first landing page.

This page is hidden and existed users can't find it.
Here you test layouts, space and CTAs.

This approach has created conversion rates of up to 10% for my clients.

It's low-cost, fast to test, and especially effective for retail eCommerce stores.
