The details in this shared post were among several issues discussed at Global Trade 2026: and luncheon forum hosted this week by the World Trade Centre Georgetown.

🌍 “Deeper CARICOM integration is key to navigating a fractured global trade order.”

Speaking at a high-level panel on Prospects for International Trade in 2026 in Georgetown, Guyana, Ambassador Wayne McCook, Assistant Secretary-General, CARICOM Single Market and Trade, underscored the importance of stronger regional integration as global trade systems weaken and economic nationalism intensifies.

📈 Despite challenges, Caribbean Community exports grew by 32% between 2023 and 2024, demonstrating the Region’s resilience.

🤝 Recent steps toward full free movement of people and initiatives such as the CARICOM Industrial Policy and Strategy (CIPS) and the 25x25+5 food security agenda were highlighted as critical pillars for strengthening intra-regional trade and economic resilience.

🗣️ “Fundamentally, CARICOM integration should be seen as a strategic response to a shifting global order,” Amb. McCook emphasized.
