The Yellow-crested Cockatoo is Critically Endangered, mainly because of illegal trapping for the pet trade and habitat loss in its native range in Indonesia and East Timor. In Hong Kong, however, a wild introduced population became well established, especially in urban parks and tree-lined areas on Hong Kong Island, making the city an important refuge for the species.
小葵花鳳頭鸚鵡屬於極危物種，原生於印尼及東帝汶。牠們主要因非法捕捉作寵物買賣及原生地棲地破壞而數量大減。而香港的野生族群則是外來引入，現時多見於港島的市區公園及樹木茂密地帶，使香港成為這個物種的重要庇護地。

I’ve been meaning to draw this for a while, but I never found the right reference—until I photographed this little guy on my recent hike at Lau Shui Heung!

[Hong Kong Newt 香港瘰螈 (Paramesotriton hongkongensis)]

The Hong Kong Newt is a salamander found in Hong Kong and adjacent coastal parts of Guangdong, once thought to be endemic to Hong Kong and named accordingly. Its underside is orange and black, a classic warning pattern that signals its toxicity to potential predators. During the breeding season, adults migrate from forest streams to shallow rock pools and roadside ponds, often crossing busy roads in the process; this leads to frequent roadkill and is now a major conservation threat to this near‑threatened species.

香港瘰螈是香港及其鄰近廣東沿海林區一種蠑螈，過去一度被認為是香港特有種，因而得名。牠腹部具有鮮明的橙黑色斑紋，為典型的警戒色，表示牠體內含刺激性毒素。繁殖季時，成體會由森林溪流遷移至岩池與淺水區交配，途中常需穿越車道，因而造成大量路殺，對這種近危物種構成嚴重威脅。

The Thornback Cowfish is a small reef fish with a rigid, boxlike body covered in bony plates and short spines, giving it its distinctive “armored” look. Closely related to boxfishes and pufferfishes within the order Tetraodontiformes, it shares their compact body plan and specialized swimming style. Found in Indo-Pacific coastal waters, including records from around Hong Kong, this species lives near coral and rocky reefs and uses its protrusible mouth to pick small invertebrates from the seafloor.
