[Thornback Cowfish 福氏角箱魨(Lactoria fornasini)]

The Thornback Cowfish is a small reef fish with a rigid, boxlike body covered in bony plates and short spines, giving it its distinctive “armored” look. Closely related to boxfishes and pufferfishes within the order Tetraodontiformes, it shares their compact body plan and specialized swimming style. Found in Indo-Pacific coastal waters, including records from around Hong Kong, this species lives near coral and rocky reefs and uses its protrusible mouth to pick small invertebrates from the seafloor.

Giant Panda 大熊貓 (Ailuropoda melanoleuca)]

The Giant Panda is a stocky bear with a distinctive white coat marked by black ears, limbs, and eye patches, adapted to cool, mountainous bamboo forests in central China. Its enlarged molars and powerful jaw muscles, together with a thumb-like extension of the wrist, help it hold and grind fibrous bamboo for hours each day. Today, habitat protection and focused conservation efforts have improved its status to “Vulnerable”.

大熊貓是中國中部高山竹林中的特有熊科動物，以黑白相間的毛色和圓潤體型聞名。 雖然分類上屬於食肉目，但牠們擁有發達的顎肌與加寬的臼齒，再加上類似「拇指」的腕骨突起，能牢牢握住並進食堅韌的竹莖與竹葉。 透過棲地保護與保育計畫，大熊貓在保育名錄中的級別已調整為「易危」。

Sharks, belonging to the class Chondrichthyes, are cartilaginous fishes that have inhabited our oceans for over 400 million years, long before the age of the dinosaurs. From the gentle, filter-feeding Whale Shark to the powerful Great White and the elusive deep-sea Goblin Shark, these species showcase the incredible diversity and adaptability of one of the ocean’s oldest lineages. Found from coral reefs to the abyssal depths, sharks maintain balance in marine ecosystems by regulating prey populations and keeping ocean food webs healthy.

Hong Kong’s varied landscapes support a rich array of raptors, each adapted to unique habitats and hunting styles. The black kite (Milvus migrans), the city’s most common raptor, thrives in urban and coastal areas, feeding opportunistically on fish, birds, reptiles, rodents, and carrion. The osprey (Pandion haliaetus) is tied to wetlands and open water, diving for fish with its curved talons. The migratory amur falcon (Falco amurensis) favors open country, preying mainly on insects and small birds. In forested hills and wetlands, the crested serpent eagle (Spilornis cheela) hunts snakes, lizards, and small mammals. The black-winged kite (Elanus caeruleus) hovers over grasslands, expertly catching rodents and small birds. The peregrine falcon (Falco peregrinus), famed for its speed, target pigeons and other birds in swift dives. Together, these raptors highlight Hong Kong’s ecological richness, occupying cityscapes, wetlands, and woodlands as vital top predators.

香港多樣的地貌孕育出豐富的猛禽種類，各自適應不同的棲息地與獵食方式。黑鳶是本港最常見的猛禽，能在城市及沿海地區靈活生存，並以魚類、鳥類、爬行類、囓齒動物及腐肉為食。魚鷹則與濕地及開闊水域關聯密切，善於以彎曲的爪子俯衝捕魚。遷徙性的阿穆爾隼偏好開闊地帶，主要以昆蟲及小型鳥類為食。蛇鵰棲息於林地及濕地，獵食蛇類、蜥蜴及小型哺乳動物。黑翅鳶常在草地上空盤旋，擅長捕捉囓齒動物及小型鳥類。遊隼以速度著稱，專門以高速俯衝捕捉鴿子及其他鳥類。這些猛禽共同展現了香港生態的豐富多樣，從城市、濕地到林地，擔當著重要的頂級捕食者角色
