If you are looking for inspiration and fortunate enough to still have your father with you, look to him.
When I had just embarked on my journey in hospitality at 16, I was hired as a waiter at Pizza Hut.
One day, I was asked to do pot-wash. I didn't like this. After my shift, I went home moaning, 'I'm a waiter, not a dishwasher.' My dad proceeded to teach me a very valuable lesson using football as an analogy.
'Football, with all its glory, would be nothing without its groundsmen. Without a pitch to play on, there wouldn't be a game. This is the same in restaurants; without people to wash the dishes, new meals can't be served. Consequently, patrons would have nothing to buy. Always respect those who do the groundwork—the cleaning of dishes and toilets—because without them, football stadiums and restaurants could not operate.'
I have carried this lesson with me throughout my life and live by it every day.
Happy Father's Day
