Food Craze Ah Ong Recommendation of Good Tasty Asian Food in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand etc and some pics of places that I had travelled. LoL. Enjoy Eating!!!

For the past many years, I was fortunate to have the luxury of travelling to many places and the opportunities of exposing to different cultures, not forgetting about all the delicious delicacies that I had tasted. Perhaps that is the reason why I started to become fussy with food and always set a higher than normal standard for myself. Being a glutton, I had to pay for the price, not only in mone

tary but physically with a big tummy like a pregnant lady! But I've managed to control and slim down lately. Being brought up in an average income family, I comprehend the important values of money since young. Most people will relate good food with expensive restaurants. However, in my personal opinion, taking away the ambience or environment, good food can always be found in non-expensive places like street food, food centres, zichar stalls, coffee shops etc and the highlight of all could be the savings in exchange. Some may agree with me that every chef has their own standard even if they had learnt from the same master. As such, to ensure the same or equivalent food quality, it must be cooked by the same chef. Here, the food that I will recommend are mostly from the one and only food stall/shop/restaurant with some exceptional cases. These include food from various countries ranging from Singapore to Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand etc. I believe in doing free marketing for food outlets who serve really good food as they deserve the credits for whipping up good dishes for us! Disclaimer: Food standards may vary subject to any changes with chefs or management. Other than food, as a keen traveler and photographer, I will share some scenic photos that I had taken during my past holiday trips to various countries. Do feel free to check with me if you need help on the itineraries etc. I'll assist wherever I can. Last but not least, I hope you will enjoy the pics and the food that I recommend and please share with all your friends if you deem the recommendations good! Bon Appetit! :)

Heard about the toast bread here and tried somewhere in early 2018 and been there several times thereafter. Somehow, it is the texture of the bread quality along with the butter and kaya spread that made it so tasty. Curry puffs as well as other snacks are good also. This place is popular among not only the residents of Yong Peng but also people from other states like myself who is willing to drive all the way there just to have a light bite. Next time if you head north or south, no harm spend some time to do a detour and try this out.

Like the environment, a kelong seafood restaurant located at Piayu, about 45 mins drive from Batam City Centre. Choose to sit on a floating platform or on land. Pick and choose your own choice of live fresh fish and various seafood. Their specialty is the the Seafood Steamboat, which comes with prawns, flower crabs, scallops, shellfish. Good for a group of 6 or more.

45 mins ferry across to Batam from Singapore. A famous stall for it's clear Batang Fish Soup by default, well situated in Batam located inside a coffee shop "Eastern Food Court" directly opposite the popular BCS Mall.
Strongly recommend their Fish Head/Tail soup as you can choose the fresh pieces which will then be cooked right away in a claypot with their special soup with yam and chilli. Couldn't resist this and had to make a separate trip back within a month.
Their deep fried batang is also good.
Prices are reasonable.
Be there early if you do not want to miss this in your itinerary as their stocks normally run out fast around 12-1pm.

Having tried a few restaurants in Tapah, I would personally recommend this restoran if you are heading downhill or uphill to Cameron Highland. Their freshwater fishes are truly fresh and tasty. ่Š‹ๅคดๆ‰ฃ่‚‰ is ๐Ÿ‘ and all dishes savory to me. Price is definitely inexpensive. Usually I prefer to drive from Simpang Pulai to Cameron Highland and take the hilly winding road towards Tapah on the return journey. Get your passengers to take "seasick pills" as the probability of getting car sick is high. ๐Ÿ˜‚. Duration from Brinchang is approximately 1.5hrs so by the time you reach Tapah your passengers would have woken up from the drowsiness effect and ready to feast. ๐Ÿ˜‚
Of course for those who are driving along NS highway,, you may wish to consider taking a break since it's just a turn off from Tapah toll station.

Took several attempts in the past to try the food here but gave up after seeing the long queue. Finally decided to queue, wait and see what's so famous and good about the dishes here. 1.5 hrs of queing and 30 min of waiting for the food...
1. Cheesy Prawn Beehoon. One prawn cut into 4 parts. Gravy is creamy. Not too bad but beehoon not soft enough. RM38 for Small portion.
2. Fresh milk crabs. Was told about 1.2kg in total for min 2 crabs. Turned out 1.7kg when billed. RM130/kg. 2 mud crabs cooked in sweet spicy sour sauce. Served with toasted bread.
3. Fried squid with garlics. RM8 per 100gm. Was told 300gm but turned out 500gm when billed. Pretty good, tender and go well with the sauce.

A little overrated and price steep at RM320 for two pax with the 2 hrs spent in queing and waiting. The prices that they state during order turn out to be much more than expected. Will try only once but not return for more. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Truly good, rich, tasty and unique famous soy sauce ramen in Asahikawa especially during winter when one needs hot soupy food to warm oneself. When it comes to ramen, the way it is cooked determines the quality. Am not an expertise in this but in my personal opinion, I believe the water temperature and duration the ramen is cooked plays an important part. Soup is equally important. Without good soup, there will never be good ramen. The chef was so serious in his work that I enjoyed watching every single moment my ramen was prepared. Truly commendable.

Just a recommendation for those who have plans to visit Asahikawa Hokkaido. For lamb lovers, this would be one famous place that serves really good and tasty Mongolian Genghis khan BBQ Lamb. Pick your choice of lamb meat from the menu and off you go grilling away in no time. Lamb meat is very tender and for those who likes original, eat direct after cooking while for those who prefers seasoned meat, simply dip the cooked meat into the sauce provided. Their chilli powder is also spicy and adds on the flavour for those who like hot stuffs. Vegetables are complimentary and can be replenished at no extra cost. Prices are surprisingly reasonable and inexpensive. Do expect a long wait estimated 30-60min depending on your timing. They have another heated shop lot opposite to hold the customers. Truly a good experience.

Ikan bakar or grilled bbq fish in English is one of those in my favourite food list. I remember I used to patronize my friend's stall at Sri Tebrau hawker centre in the 80's having BBQ stingray, sotong (squids) on banana leaves with lots of chilli paste, which cost as little as RM5 each back then. Not anymore since he stopped operating more than a decade ago and it is hard to find good ones nowadays.
Fortunately, I found this stall located at Stulang Laut at a corner behind 7-11. Not far away from zon duty free shopping mall. It was so crowded when I was there and I decided to give it a shot the following night.
They start only at 5pm and I was as early as 430pm, wanting to beat the crowd before the sky turns dark. Ordered their famous Nasi Goreng Seafood (seafood fried rice), picked a piece of stingray and squid. Requested to mix these with Lady's fingers. You can add other types of vege.
The fried rice was served wrapped with banana leaves and when unwrapped, the aroma simply released, making my stomach groaning, eager to savour the entire portion. The most important part that makes good BBQ food is the sambal chilli paste. The BBQ fish and sotong did not fail my taste buds at all. The sambal chilli paste was good being spicy with little sweetness and it goes along well with their own self made "achar". Not enough sambal? Not to worry. It's free flow and you can take as much as you want. They have crabs and other seafood for you to choose.
You get free unplugged guitarist and singer but don't expect the place to be restaurant as the place is indeed run down. However, the food would compensate for everything else. ๐Ÿ˜„

If you are a coffee lover, do try this. Didn't fail me at all. Quite a handful of coffee joints in this mall but I decided to give this a try after seeing the banner that offers coffee course arrangements. Truly live up to their reputation. As good as those from downunder. If you like cheesecake, you won't be disappointed. Blends well with their coffee. A lovely day out there. ๐Ÿ˜

Located right across the causeway at Stulang Laut in JB, this Korean BBQ restaurant is indeed a hidden gem. Not only the food is good, the portion is reasonably great with many side dishes and best of all, prices are nett. No service charge nor any other taxes. On a good starry night, you get to experience alfresco bbq. You can see singapore at the other end. Service is good. For a meal of 2 meats, a toufu soup and a bottle of soju wine, it only cost me RM102. Certainly value for $$$.

Used to sell at Taman Jurong Sheng Shiong food court many years ago and shifted to yishun. This stall is famous for it's ็‚ธ่›‹ (deep fried egg) on top of their fish soup. Pretty decent with more varieties such as deep fried batang fish skin etc. Two types of fish offered, namely batang and deep fried fish. Or you can also choose both. Their chilli sauce used to be very spicy but not now anymore. However still goes well with the fish meat. If you like hot stuff, try mixing your soup with sliced red chilli.
