Badung Moves to Demolish Illegal Villas on Protected Rice Fields in Munggu

Badung authorities are taking action against seven buildings, most believed to be villas, allegedly constructed on protected agricultural land within Subak Munggu.

Officials said several owners questioned during the inspection were unable to present key building and business permits. Structures confirmed to be in violation of protected-land regulations will be ordered to stop construction and dismantle the illegal developments.

The enforcement action follows complaints from local Subak farmers, who raised concerns about unauthorized villa development and its impact on the area’s irrigation system.

Authorities have also ordered the removal of an approximately 200-metre section covering an irrigation channel, which was reportedly converted into an access road for villa or residential development.

Damien John Shaw: Perth man found dead with two kids in suspected murder-suicide in Bali

A Perth man and his two young children have been found dead inside a Bali villa in a suspected murder-suicide.

The deaths of Damien John Shaw, 56, and his two children are being investigated by Indonesian police after their bodies were discovered inside a villa at Arca Bungalow about 10.15am on Sunday.

A six-year-old boy and four-year-old girl, also Australian citizens, were found dead on the floor inside the Kuta property.

Mr Shaw, from Fremantle, was also found dead inside the villa.

A neighbour told police Mr Shaw’s wife raised the alarm after hearing her daughter crying during a phone call with her husband.

When neighbours failed to get a response from the villa, they forced their way inside and discovered the three bodies.

An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of the deaths.

Mr Shaw’s wife is understood to have left Bali for Jakarta about four days before the bodies were discovered.

The family were believed to have been living together in Bali before her departure.

WA Premier Roger Cook said he was aware of the deaths.

Indonesian police are investigating a suspected murder-suicide after the bodies of an Australian man and his two children were found in a home in Bali.

Police found the bodies of 56-year-old Damien John Shaw, along with his six-year-old son and four-year-old daughter, inside their bungalow at Kuta on Sunday morning.

In a statement, Badung Regency police said neighbours went to check in on the family after a call from the man's wife, who was in Jakarta.

Police said the man's wife called a neighbour after hearing her child cry while she was on the phone to Mr Shaw.

She told the neighbour the call was disconnected and her husband became unreachable.

The neighbour contacted others and then, along with the community head, forced the door to the Kuta bungalow open, discovering the bodies of the children and Mr Shaw.

The three have been taken to a hospital in Denpasar, where police may conduct autopsies to confirm the cause of death.

A police report was lodged on Sunday and investigations will continue.
