What happens when a crisis becomes an experience?
KitKat’s stolen chocolate campaign shows how an unexpected crisis can become more than a problem to manage.
Just before Easter, 12 tonnes of KitKat chocolate reportedly disappeared somewhere between Italy and Poland. Instead of keeping the situation behind closed doors, KitKat turned the story into a public investigation.
Through the Stolen KitKat Tracker, people could scan the batch code on their bar to find out whether they were holding stolen goods. What started as a supply chain crisis became an interactive experience that invited people to participate.
What makes the idea stand out is how it transformed transparency into engagement. Instead of simply communicating what happened, KitKat gave people a reason to follow the story, investigate, and become part of it.
At MCI Indonesia, we see this as a great example of how meaningful experiences can emerge from the most unexpected situations.
Because sometimes, the problem itself can become the idea.
An idea we believe is worth experiencing.
