The internet is full of business advice but almost none of it was written with you in mind.

Birthwork isn’t selling diet plans. Or web design. Or e-commerce. The sales cycle is more… nuanced. The relationship is more sacred. The ethics are different.

So when you take advice written for other businesses and try to apply it to yours, it either doesn’t work, or it works in a way that makes you feel icky.

Have you ever made the same business decision 47 times before actually making it?
You know what I mean? Thinking about - Pricing. Posting. Niching. Packages.
You’ve thought it through from every angle. You’ve googled it. You’ve nearly committed four times. And somehow you’re still in the same loop you started in. Stuck.
Here’s the thing it really isn’t a confidence problem.
It’s an isolation problem.
When you’re making every call completely alone, with no one who genuinely understands the ethics, the on-call reality, the specific world of birthwork the spiral doesn’t stop. Because there’s no one to say “yes, that makes sense for where you are right now” and actually mean it.
One honest, sense-checking conversation can collapse a week of overthinking. Really.
Not because someone else has all the answers. But because you were never designed to carry every question on your own.

The hard days are the ones that matter most.

Not the days when everything's flowing and you're motivated and the enquiries are coming in. The days when you really don't want to do it.

When you're fed up or something went wrong and you don't know how to fix it. When you've made a decision and you're second-guessing it. When you're tired and you just need someone to tell you it's going to be ok, someone who actually understands what you're dealing with!

On those days, if you don't have the right person to reach out to, here's what tends to happen.

-You ask ChatGPT. And it tells you every idea you have is brilliant.
-Or you talk to someone who loves you but has no idea what running this kind of business actually involves.
-Or you talk to nobody. And it all just rattles around in your head getting louder and LOUDER.

Louise O'Brien said something in this week's podcast episode that really resonated with me.
