That does not mean that it is easy, cheap, or fast, but, it generally follows a standard proven pattern.

Strategy & Goals

At the start of all projects I ask "what will success look like for this project?". I need to know upfront what the goals, expectations, and timelines attached.

A good answer is X number of enquires each month or x% increase in sales from organic traffic. A bad answer is get to number one in Google. Once we know your goals we can work back based on the current conversation rate - if there is data.

The strategy is a long term master plan that will bring about your business vision. Where do you want to be in 6 months, 1 year, 3 and 5 years. This is one of the areas I love about my business. I can sit down and map out a vision I have for a website and bring something into being, from nothing but my imagination.

On Site SEO or Audit

Most small sites that haven't had any SEO work, usually need somewhere from 1 to 5 days to optimise the website. In best case scenarios this is a one-off.

On some sites this can lead to a new website or branding - it depends where you are.

Content

I like to think of content as hooks in the water. 300 word posts published and forgotten is a hook, but a bare hook. And, as we know bare hooks don't catch fish.

But, that 1,200 word post that was keyword researched, and is on target for your audience, is a hook with a big juicy worm.

This is a hook that both Google and your prospects love. (This is from the guy that does not fish)

Link Building

Getting 3, 5, or 10 links each month from good quality websites, is like jet fuel for your great content.

That is it, a simple plan that works.

So why does not every business do this and succeed? In each of the sections, these are the common failings.

1. No strategy or one that changes every 3 or 6 months
2. No SEO or under resourced
3. Rubbish content
4. Cheap links or none

The biggest problem is garbage content only written to tick off a task.
