We were deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Michael Lyster this weekend. He was such a huge part of so many great GAA moments over the years, and like so many others, we were genuine fans of his work.

When he retired, we sent him this small award as a thank you, and despite having no obligation whatsoever, he took the time to reply to us personally. That simple gesture said a lot about the man he was.

Our thoughts are with his wife Anne, his children, and all who knew and loved him. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.

Anytime you would meet Ollie you would come away feeling better about yourself. He had that way about him, a charm that enabled him to slag you and compliment you at the same time. 

I met him last summer at Fossa where there was a great blitz and Ollie was inspiring the next generation of young Glenflesk footballers. I took a little clip to send him as I knew he’d like it and whatever happened after I never got to send it. I suppose you always think there will be more time 😢. 

It must sound cliche to say that he was a joy to meet but he REALLY was. It didn’t matter if it was in the business world, hospitality, sport or Tourism, Ollie brought an energy that was infectious. He was great to do business with and he was a great host when we were customers.

Our hearts are broken for his family, former colleagues and close friends as their loss is unimaginable really.

Rest In Peace Ollie. 💔
