As a member of the North Cork Business Alliance I want to do anything I can to help promote the group. Pat O Hara, videographer, is creating profile videos for each member to add to their profiles on the group’s website. He kindly includes me in the videoshoots for any observations I might make. So, today I was observing the videoshoot for Sean Lynch QFA CFP of SYS Financial. Sean oozes confidence and is very articulate so there wasn’t much for me to offer. It was still fun and I like being connected to the group. North Cork Business Alliance Pat O'Hara Videographer & Photographer .videographer

When a fellow professional trusts you with their most important client, you deliver — or you don't get asked twice.

I was brought in to redesign and build a website from the ground up: new look and feel, mobile-first, fast.

The result? A smooth process, a happy end client, and a review I'm really proud of.

I'm so pleased to announce the launch of the new website for Michelle Waters of The Wig Boutique @ Amare (formerly Amare Wigs) and even more thrilled that we could time it perfectly before Michelle's TV appearance next week!

Michelle is truly one of a kind. With a background in professional hairdressing and a heart full of compassion, she works tirelessly to support people experiencing hair loss due to chemotherapy, alopecia, and natural hair thinning — meeting every client with kindness, empathy, and genuine understanding. I can’t imagine anyone better suited to her profession. She’s soft and gentle, warm and supportive.

For so many people, a visit with Michelle isn't just a consultation. It's a step toward feeling like themselves again.

If you or someone you love could benefit from Michelle's expertise and care, I'd encourage you to visit the new site and contact her.

I’m delighted to announce the launch of thrivingtalentbook.com — a home for Aoife O'Brien's new book, Thriving Talent.

My second project with Aoife, and it's always a pleasure working with someone who has such insights into leadership and being happier at work.

A special mention to Roger Overall of Tell & Sell for the SEO-optimized copy that is inviting and professional.

If you lead a team and care about the people in it, go check it out.

Web design is actually my third career. Yes, third!

My first job was at The Metropole Hotel in Cork cooking the buffet lunch for coachloads of tourists. I learned a lot. Feeding hungry tourists was good training for client work! Though the menu has changed.

Career number 2 took me from word processor (yes, that was a real job title!) at Foote, Cone & Belding, an advertising agency in Chicago all the way to executive assistant to the CEO of The Balcor Company. I worked in many of the departments along the way. Twenty years, a purchase by American Express in the 80s and some amazing friendships that have lasted to this day. Balcor people, you know who you are. That chapter ended with me starting my own business as a virtual assistant in California. And that’s when web design crept in and took over. Almost 20 years and one transatlantic move later, here I am.

Was your career path a straight line or did it have some unexpected turns too?

Will I maintain websites for people in other countries? Absolutely, and here’s why that works in your favour. I’m based in Ireland. The time-zone difference means my clients in the US can email me a work request at the end of their day knowing I will have received it and, in many cases, completed the task by the time they are back at their desk.

I currently have clients in Ireland, the UK, the US, Spain and the UAE. Thanks to technology, staying in touch is easy and I’m always a phone call or email away.

Some of these relationships have lasted more than ten years and I treasure them. These clients have become friends and know I have their back. If you’re looking for that kind of relationship, I’d love to hear from you.

I’m working on my next client site that will launch in a few days. Today I’m preparing the photos for one of the pages.

This is one of the parts of web creation that I enjoy. Luckily for me, this client provided all the images from their supplier’s website so they are consistently sized. Photoshop is my program of choice for working with them. Each photo has to be re-sized to fit the site appropriately. If I upload an image that is much too large for the space on the page it will slow down the page load time. The next step is to optimize them for the web – another way to make them load quickly once on the page. Then I can upload them to the website and add alt tags to each one describing what they are. Finally I insert them into the site in the right pages.

Alt tags are an important step not only for SEO but also for any user who has a visual impairment and may be using a screen reader. I’m always surprised when I see websites that are missing alt tags on images.

Have you ever noticed a slow-loading site and wondered why? Well, images are often one of the biggest culprits. Stay tuned for the launch of this site. I’ll be posting about it later in the week.

It’s a treat to get out of the office from time to time. This morning’s excursion was to participate in a videoshoot for the North Cork Business Alliance. Pat O’Hara, videographer, has been creating short profile videos for each member of the Alliance for our website. This morning was Ivan Danne’s turn to be in front of the camera. Ivan is the owner of Blackwater Chiropractic in Mallow. Pat O'Hara Videographer & Photographer North Cork Business Alliance
