A night walk in Kathmandu to dinner in the Thamel area has shopping, temples, beautiful streets and nightlife. There is also at least five Cajun-nspired restaurants here. Being from New Orleans, I know New Orleans, Louisiana is a culinary capital where people go to train, but seeing so many Cajun-inspired food venues seem almost like a sign.

I stopped into a little tea shop last night knowing I had to be indoors today working. So I am sipping my day away on saffron-rose tea before taking a break to venture out for some sightseeing.

As I grow,, this quote has become my daily pursuit. In my 20s-30s, it just was not possible for me nor could I comprehend it. Live Well is the motto for this quote.

In 2016, I came to India for a pilgrimage with the secondary intent of putting my grandmother ashes in the holy rivers to give her soul its best chance in future lives. Joyce was the person who raised me for the first seven years of my life, my best friend and someone I cared for like no other. Financially, emotionally and with a lot of fighting, it was the only relationship that transformed and transcends in my life. Her birthday yesterday was a hard day.

Joyce was a bit of a racist who also really didn't understand the gay thing, but learned to love and accept in the end. The only thing she ever wanted for me was success and to be married even when it was not actually an option. That is a lot for a former racists southerner from cotton picking fields as a child.

Her birthday yesterday was difficult, but alas I am here still moving forward trying to honor her and fulfill the wishes she had for me. Losing her was the most life altering experience for me as she was a mother to me in the Indian sense. We cared for and lived for each other in this way.

May the future be bright and everyone reading be fortunate and humble enough to appreciate relationships in your life.. Happy Birthday Joyce!
