If you're a creator chasing YouTube Shorts ad revenue, here's a number that might change your whole strategy.

YouTube pays roughly ₹5-30 per 1,000 views on Shorts in India. Even a million-view viral hit nets you maybe ₹5,000-30,000 from the platform.

Meanwhile, a creator with just 50,000 subscribers can land ₹10,000-50,000 for ONE sponsored Short. A single brand deal. That's up to 50 times more than the platform pays for the same video.

Shorts aren't really where the money is. Shorts are where the audience gets built. The money shows up once brands start paying for that audience directly.

Chase the audience, not the ad-revenue number.

If you work with influencers for your brand, this changed and most people haven't noticed.

A quiet " " at the end of the caption isn't enough anymore. Every sponsored video now legally needs the creator to say out loud, in the first 10 seconds, that it's paid content. Hiding it in a pile of hashtags is now explicitly banned.

And if a brand's using an AI-generated influencer without disclosing it, the fine for repeat offenses is ₹10 to 50 lakh.

This isn't a caption fix anymore. It has to be scripted into the video from the start. Worth checking your next brief before you shoot, not after.

Quick timing note, because this window closes fast every year and almost nobody plans for it early enough.

Festive CPMs on Meta start climbing this month. Raksha Bandhan's peak buying window is August 14-16. Independence Day sales typically get announced August 10-12. Once that starts, you're not bidding against a quiet market anymore. You're bidding against every brand in your category who waited until the festive calendar forced their hand.

Here's the part that actually separates the brands who win this quarter from the ones who scramble through it: audience-building has to happen before the demand spike, not during it. A cold audience seeing your ad for the first time during peak Raksha Bandhan week is paying premium CPMs to introduce themselves to someone who's never heard of the brand. A warm audience you built in June and July converts at a completely different rate for the same spend, because the introduction already happened when it was cheap.

Real number that surprises most people: running Meta ads in India costs ₹50-90 per 1,000 impressions.

The global average is roughly ₹590 for the same thing.

That's not a small gap. That's Indian advertisers getting reach at roughly a tenth of what brands elsewhere are paying for it. Which means the usual excuse — "ads are too expensive to test properly" — barely holds here compared to most markets.

The actual bottleneck for most Indian brands isn't the cost of testing. It's that most budgets are still parked in the weakest-performing ad format (plain single image), while Reels are quietly running double the click-through rate for a fraction more effort to produce.

Cheap reach plus the wrong format is still a wasted budget. Cheap reach plus the right format is the actual unlock most brands here haven't used yet.

Bengaluru restaurants are threatening to boycott Swiggy and Zomato starting August 15.

Not over the commission. Over everything stacked on top of it that never shows up in one place — ad fees, "visibility boosts," payout deductions.

Sound familiar? Swap restaurant for brand and Swiggy for Meta. Same story, different app.

Add up every fee you're paying a platform this month. Not the estimate. The actual number. Most people flinch.

Weird things are happening with Google right now.

2 out of 3 searches end with nobody clicking anything. The AI just answers the question on the page. When Google's AI summary shows up, that number goes past 80%.

Here's the part that matters. Ranking #1 doesn't mean you get mentioned in that AI answer. You can rank first and still get zero mention. A business ranked seventh but actually named inside the summary gets seen by way more people.

The businesses getting quoted inside these AI answers are seeing 4-9 times better conversion. Not from ranking higher. From being named.

Quick gut check: if someone asked an AI about your industry today, would your business come up?

Grounding data: WhatsApp marketing in India delivers 5-10x ROAS and 40-60% lower CAC through click-to-WhatsApp ads, with broadcast conversion of 5-15% against email's 0.5-2%.

Despite this, most brands still treat WhatsApp as a support channel, not a growth channel — the largest gap in Indian digital marketing right now.

Genuinely surprising stat: 73% of young consumers now trust smaller creators more than big-name influencers. 62% say they're straight-up tired of seeing the same big names on every brand deal.

Most influencer budgets are still allocated backwards — biggest follower count gets the biggest check. The data says that's often the wrong bet now. A smaller, tightly-engaged creator in the right niche is regularly outperforming a massive account that's hit its fatigue ceiling.

Anyone else noticing smaller creator partnerships quietly outperforming the "big name" ones in their own campaigns?

Wild stat: only 12-18% of ads tested in ecommerce actually go on to scale. 82-88% never do.

That's not a broken creative process — that's what a healthy one looks like right now. Meta's current algorithm burns through creative fast (effective lifespan down to 2-3 weeks on Reels placements), so you need constant volume, and most of that volume is supposed to fail.

The mistake isn't having ads that don't work. It's still treating each ad like a single bet instead of measuring the whole batch.

Anyone else's team still panicking every time one test "fails," instead of just checking the batch win rate?

Confession: our brand page's reach has basically flatlined this year. Turns out that's not just us.

2026 data shows brand pages losing organic reach almost everywhere — Instagram business accounts are down to single digits of their own followers seeing a post. The only accounts still growing organically are founder-led ones.

We're not deleting the page. We're just being honest that it's not where the actual reach comes from anymore. That's shifting where we put our energy.

Has anyone else's brand page quietly gone flat this year while personal posts kept working?
