Actor-politician C. Joseph Vijay, known as “Thalapathy” Vijay, took oath as the new Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu on Sunday, May 10, 2026, marking a historic transition from cinema to state leadership. The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader was sworn in at Chennai’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium, ending nearly 60 years of DMK/AIADMK dominance.

While TVK won 108 seats directly, they secured necessary support from allies including the Congress (5 seats), VCK, CPI, and CPI-M, bringing their coalition above the 118-seat majority mark.

The ceremony was attended by his parents, actor Trisha Krishnan, and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi.
