CM Golay Graces Pre-Losar Celebrations in Gangchung; Announces ₹3 Crore for Rukumtar Playground Development
Gangchung, Namchi District: Hon’ble Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang-Golay graced the concluding day of the Sherpa Gyalpo Losar cm Eco-Village Tourism Celebration 2026 and the final match of the Inter Sikkim Veteran Open Football Tournament. The event was organized by the Sherpa Buddhist Samaj, Gangchung, Namchi District.
Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister appreciated the efforts of the organizing committee and the Sherpa community in hosting the event. He extended his best wishes for the preservation of culture, the promotion of tourism, and the overall development of the region.
In a significant announcement, CM Tamang assured that a separate allocation of ₹3 crore would be provided in the upcoming budget dedicated to the improvement and beautification of the Rukumtar playground and its surrounding areas.
The programme was attended by a host of dignitaries, including Hon’ble Speaker M.N. Sherpa, Hon’ble Deputy Speaker Raj Kumari Thapa, Hon’ble Minister of UDHD Bhoj Raj Rai, the Hon’ble Minister for Tourism, Area MLA of 14-Temi Namphing Constituency Bedu Singh Panth, Hon’ble MLA of Namchi Singithang Constituency Satish Chandra Rai, and Hon’ble MLA of Melli Constituency N.B. Pradhan, alongside Chairpersons and OSDs.
The celebration featured vibrant cultural dance performances and showcased traditional cuisines, highlighting the rich heritage of the region.
During the event, the organizing committee felicitated Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang-Golay with a Letter of Honour. Also felicitated were Area MLA Bedu Singh Panth, CLC President Phurba Tshering Bhutia, and former President of the Sherpa Gyalpo Losar Celebration Committee Pempa Chodar Sherpa.
Additionally, the Chief Minister distributed cheques to beneficiaries under the SSSY of 14-Temi Namphing Constituency and Team Discover Temi. This initiative aims to support and empower local beneficiaries while promoting development activities across the state.
The day concluded with the exciting final match of the Inter Sikkim Veteran Open Football Tournament, where Bermiok WB defeated 09 Berfung Veteran with a scoreline of 4–2.
The programme concluded successfully on a positive note, marking a memorable celebration of culture and sports in the district.
