Boosting a post is not the same as running ads. I see this mistake constantly.
That blue "Boost Post" button on Facebook looks harmless. You tap it, spend a few dollars, watch the reach go up and think you've done some marketing.
We have seen business owners do this for months and then wonder why the phone isn't ringing.
Here's what boosting actually does:
You're handing Facebook your money and saying "do whatever." They'll pick a broad audience, skip the placement controls, ignore conversion tracking, and optimise for likes and reach, because that's what makes the numbers look good on your screen.
Likes don't pay rent.
When you run actual Meta Ads, it's a completely different game:
- You build audiences based on real buyer behaviour
- You retarget people who already visited your website
- You test multiple creatives against each other
- You tell Facebook exactly what outcome you want β a lead, a purchase, a call
- You can see the cost per result, down to the rupee
Boosting exists because Facebook needs revenue and it's an easy sell. "Spend $20, reach 4,000 people!" sounds great until you realise none of them bought anything.
Real ads take a bit more setup. But they're the difference between vanity metrics and actual business growth.
If you've been boosting and wondering why it's not converting β this is why.
