Public Welfare Forum Holds Meeting in Kathua, Expands Network for Public Welfare and Social Justice
A meeting of the Public Welfare Forum was organized today at Kathua under the chairmanship of Sh. Amar Nath Thakur, Former President of Plus Two Lecturers Forum J&K, with the aim of expanding and further strengthening the Forum in the larger interest of public welfare and social justice.
The meeting focused on promoting public causes, seeking social justice, sharing social responsibilities, fighting for the rights of the people, and highlighting public demands, issues, and grievances before the corridors of power. The members observed that the Public Welfare Forum has been consistently raising several important public-related issues before the highest authorities since 2022. These included issues concerning employees, students, and the general public, particularly the acute shortage of staff in schools and health institutions.
The Forum has also been actively highlighting unresolved local issues related to roads, electricity, drinking water, healthcare, education, and other essential public services before the concerned departments and authorities.
During the meeting, several new members were entrusted with responsibilities in the district body. It was unanimously decided to constitute units of the Public Welfare Forum at village, ward, tehsil, district, and provincial levels in order to strengthen the organization at the grassroots level and ensure effective public participation.
The speakers expressed serious concern over the growing menace of drug abuse, drug trafficking, and narco-terrorism, describing it as a major threat to society. Members also highlighted the rising frustration and depression among unemployed youth, which at times forces them to take unfortunate and undesirable steps. The Forum resolved to continue working collectively for the welfare of society and the upliftment of the common people.
A large number of members participated in the meeting and assured their full cooperation and commitment for public welfare activities in the future, stating that united social efforts are the need of the hour.
On the occasion, members who have been actively working for public causes and have remained steadfast in raising public issues were honoured by the Chairman of the Public Welfare Forum. Those honoured included S. Parveen Singh, District President Kathua; Tara Mani, District General Secretary; Des Raj, Senior Vice President; Bharat Bhushan, Secretary; Puran Singh Advisor ,Romesh Singh Galoch advisor and Balbir Singh Vice president .
While appreciating the efforts of the dedicated members, the Chairman expressed hope that more people, especially educated youth and social activists, would join the Public Welfare Forum in its mission of public service, social justice, and strengthening democratic values in society.
