APEDA takes slew of initiatives to boost organic products exports!!

Looks to increase shipments further from last fiscal’s $1.04 billion

The Agricultural and Processed Food Exports Development Authority (APEDA) has taken several key initiatives to sensitise growers, exporters, State government officials and other stakeholders for harnessing the export potential of organic products and requirements under the National Programme for Organic Production (NPOP).

This is part of APEDA’s efforts to boost export of organic produce and products from the country.

India's wheat exports could quadruple to 8-year high as global prices rally !!

India's wheat exports could rise to 4.2 million tonnes this year, the highest since 2013, Nitin Gupta, vice president "There is good demand for Indian wheat for human consumption and feed purpose as well," Gupta said.

In the first eight months of 2021, India's exports surged 887% from a year ago to 3.07 million tonnes on good demand from Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Nepal and the United Arab Emirates, according to data compiled by the trade ministry. The bulk of exports last year were in the final four months.

In recent deals, two cargoes of around 100,000 tonnes of Indian wheat were sold to flour millers in Indonesia, while one cargo of about 50,000 tonnes was bought by feed makers in the Philippines, one Singapore-based grains trader said.

Asian buyers save $10 to $15 on freight when they buy from India rather than Russia or Ukraine, said the Mumbai-based dealer.

India harvested a record 109.52 million tonnes of wheat in 2021 and state-run agencies are holding a record 51.8 million tonnes, more than double the required buffer norm.

A surge in exports has lifted Indian prices to $305 per tonne on a free-on-board (FOB) basis, compared to $260 three months back, said Gupta of Olam.

Australia seeks lower tariffs on wines, to compromise in agriculture, says Tehan !!

India-Australia CECA to have a separate chapter on e-commerce.

Australia hopes to achieve lower tariffs on wines as a part of the free trade agreement (FTA) being negotiated with India, and is ready to “compromise’’ in the areas of dairy and agriculture in recognition of “sensitivities’’, Australian Trade Minister, Dan Tehan, has said.

“I can’t go into the details of the negotiations. What I can say is that there is nothing I would enjoy more than being able to provide India with some of Australia’s fine wines...at more affordable prices. That is something that we will be looking to achieve.” Tehan said at an interaction with the media”

Govt extends import window for tur, urad and soyameal


The government has given more time for importers of soyameal and pulses such as tur and urad to bring in their consignments into the country till January 31, 2022.

A notification issued on Tuesday said the free import policy for tur (pigeon pea) and urad (black matpe) has been extended till December 31, 2021. Import consignments of these pulses with Bill of Lading (BoL) issued on or before December 31, 2021, shall not be allowed by customs beyond January 31, 2022, it said.
