MARKETING IS NOT AN ACTIVITY LIST

I’ve been taking interviews of marketing candidates since some years now and found that candidates even with good academic background & enough experience churn out 'activities list' being done when questioned on marketing roles/knowledge. Sometimes I wonder whether the organizations wish to get mktg. co-ordinators or these guys accidentally got into mktg. now just following the instructions without any thought process. People do not understand / forgot STP mktg. / positioning/ consumer Insights/ campaigns / brand promises/ lead generation/ Imagery/ Increase profitability etc.... however yes the salary demands are way up there.

Is that a reason Owners/Heads/CEO's are becoming marketing heads or vice versa and agencies are taking over the marketing deptt. leaving the team below to do tasks or somewhat core marketing is compromised with the advent of digital? Is sales support the new mktg mantra?

It's starting to get little Chilly now in the morning! As much as I love summer, winter has kinda always been my fave. The thing with winter is that you can enjoy sipping your hot cup of tea slowly while concentrating on your work and you can have more cups of tea & do a lot more work. The other thing with winter is that you can spend more time in the gym without sweating and get more fit in the next 3-4 months. Do you love or hate winter? Have you planned anything special for the chilly season ahead?
