Ali Azar's flamingos just won the top aerial photography prize at the 11th 35awards - International Photography Awards — one of the world’s biggest photography contests.

Shot on the cracked bed of Lake Maharloo, the image is more than beautiful. It captures the fragility of Iran’s nature and the quiet determination of an Iranian photographer working against the odds.

Despite internet restrictions that made sending large RAW files impossible, the contest organizers made a rare exception and accepted Ali's entry.
