I’m a big fan of genre cinema, so I’m always excited to work on films exploring sci-fi, horror, fantasy – and doubly so when projects I was involved with at script stage are now heading to Festival de Cannes.
I had the chance to prepare an early marketing strategy and stills brief for Maria Martínez Bayona’s sci-fi feature-length debut “The End of It”, in collaboration with Mathias Noschis at Alphapanda, with the brilliant Catarina Sampaio exploring creative direction for poster design. It was a treat to spend some time in Maria’s rich universe and a pleasure to work with producer Kamilla Kristiane Hodøl at Elation Pictures. I am extremely happy the film has been selected for the Cannes Première section.
In a near-future world where ageing can be cured and death is now optional, Claire (Rebecca Hall), a former provocative artist approaching her 250th birthday, decides she’s had enough – she wants to die. Her decision stirs conflicts with her husband (Gael García Bernal), daughter (Noomi Rapace), and AI assistant (Beanie Feldstein), revealing the humorous complexity of their relationships. As Claire uses her impending death to reclaim her role as an artist, she is forced to face what it really means to die, to live, and the messy absurdity of it all.
More good news on the festival front, as another project I’ve contributed to with my fellow panda Joanna Solecka is part of the Fantastic7 showcase organised by SITGES and Marché du Film. It was a great experience through and through to support director Maximilien Dejoie and the teams at Albolina Film GmbH and Cinefonie with a marketing strategy and a brief for digital materials before the shoot of “Ting” – such a passionate creative group. I was already captivated by the film’s premise: in war-torn Europe, a young orphan’s grief takes shape as a terrifying creature. Lookout for this dark fantasy from Italy!
I can’t wait to see these films on the big screen. Wishing both teams and all their partners the very best!
