The Nintendo Switch version and the PlayStation 5 version of “Dragon Quest III: The Seeds of Salvation” originally released on the Family Computer in 1988, have finally been released in HD-2D. The Nintendo Switch version ranked first, while the PlayStation 5 version ranked second. Together, both versions achieved total sales of 821,770 units.

The game offers numerous elements that provide a fresh experience, even for those who played the original version. Continuous sales are anticipated in the future, with expectations that total sales could surpass 1 million units as early as next week.

Following “Super Mario Party Jamboree” and “Mario & Luigi: Brothership”, four other titles featuring characters from the “Super Mario” series also ranked in the top 3.

“Luigi's Mansion 3,” released in 2019, has made a return to the top 10 after a long absence, highlighting the strong popularity of the series.

In 5th place was “Beyblade X XONE,” marking its first appearance. This action game, where players battle using “Beyblades,” a modernized version of the traditional Japanese toy Beygoma, sold 9,507 copies.

“Super Mario Party Jamboree” is the latest party game in the “Super Mario” series, allowing players to control characters from the franchise and enjoy a variety of mini-games. It continues to perform impressively, selling 57,522 units and holding the top spot for the third consecutive week.

In their second week of release, the Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 5 versions of “Romancing SaGa 2: Revenge of the Seven” achieved notable rankings, coming in at second and seventh place, respectively.

In third place is “Call of Duty: Black Ops 6,” the latest installment in the globally popular FPS series, which is experiencing steady sales growth.

Ranking at eighth place is the brand-new action game “FARMAGIA,” marking its first appearance in the market. The characters for this title were designed by manga artist Hiro Mashima, renowned for his work on “FAIRY TAIL” and “EDENS ZERO.” In its opening week, “FARMAGIA” sold 4,296 copies.

Meanwhile, on the hardware front, the new Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S models were released on October 15, 2024.

The revamped Xbox Series X is now a "digital edition" that omits the disk drive and is priced around $50 (\7,000) less than the previous model. In contrast, the new Xbox Series S model is approximately $50 (\5,400) more expensive but features an increased SSD capacity, upgrading from 512GB to 1TB.

“Luigi's Mansion 2 HD” topped the list for the second week.

This title is the HD remaster for “Luigi's Mansion 2” originally released for the Nintendo 3DS in 2013. Thanks in part to the online coop gameplay for up to 4 players, the game has been well received and has sold 122,253 units in total.

Other titles featuring characters from the "Super Mario" series, such as "Mario Kart 8 Deluxe" and "Paper Mario: Thousand Years Door" also performed well, with 5 titles making the top 10 this week.

"Dragon’s Strongest King Encyclopedia Battle Colosseum" made its debut in the software ranking at 9th place. Unfortunately the game only supports Japanese, possibly because the “Strongest King Encyclopediea” is mainly recognized in Japan.

This title is a battle simulation game in which players compete to raise the strongest dragon, choosing from a variety of dragons that appear in myths and folklore from around the world.

The game can also be enjoyed through local and online multiplayer for competitive play.

For the week of June 17, the Nintendo Switch (OLED model) had a total of 26,476units sold, followed by the PlayStation 5 Disc Edition with 19,661 units, and the Nintendo Switch Lite with 7,721 units.

Interestingly, the PlayStation 4 continues to sell a few hundred units every week, even with the Sony and PlayStation Stores no longer selling the PlayStation 4.
This can be understood as left-over stock in the market, and gamers opting to purchase an older console that supports some of the games released for PlayStation 5, for almost half the price of the PlayStation 5.

2. Software

The PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 versions of “Elden Ring Shadow Of The Erdtree Edition” ranked 1st and 4th in its first appearance.

“Elden Ring Shadow Of The Erdtree Edition” comes with the action RPG “Elden Ring” released in 2022, and the DLC “Shadow Of The Erdtree” that was released on June 21as a bundled edition.

This DLC introduces new weapons, items, enemies to allow players to enjoy more challenges and high difficulty battle. Total sales of both versions have reached 31,020 units..

Among new releases, “Radiant Silvergun” came in 7th place. “Radiant Silvergun” is actually a shoot’em up game released in 1998 for arcades and the Sega Saturn. The SKU that ranked in 7th is the physical Nintendo Switch version licensed to and published by Super Deluxe Games, who have brought classics such as Clock Tower, Contra, Wizardry, and now Radiant Silvergun to the current generation of consoles.

Ranked 10th is “The Spirit Hunter Trilogy: Death Mark, NG, Death Mark II” is a collection of Japanese horror adventure games about psychic incidents and encounters with the unnatural all rolled into one game cartridge.

5 of the top 10 titles in this week's ranking made their first appearances (3 titles if counting by unique title). The Nintendo Switch version of "Shin Megami Tensei V : Vengeance" took the top spot among them.

 This title is a revamped version of the RPG "Shin Megami Tensei V," which was released in 2021 and sold more than 1 million copies worldwide. It features an improved battle system and script, as well as new elements such as a new story path, "Canon of Vengeance" and has sold a total of 31,888 copies in its first week in the market.

 The PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4 versions also ranked 2nd and 7th, bringing the total sales of all versions to 56,865 units. If not for these versions of the game, the top 10 games for the reporting period would have likely been dominated by Nintendo Switch titles again.

 In 4th place was "Monster Hunter Stories," which also made its first appearance. This title is a remastered version of the title released on Nintendo 3DS in 2016, with higher visual quality and full voice support.

 A double pack that includes "Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin" is also available at various stores.

 In 10th place is the physical version of "Snufkin: Melody of Moominvalley," an adventure game in which players take on the role of Snufkin and explore the "Moomin" world. The downloadable version of the game, which was released earlier, has also been highly acclaimed.

The software ranking for the reported period is dominated with software for the Nintendo Switch, and 9 out of 10 titles and Nintendo first party titles, once again showing the strength of the Nintendo Switch in the Japanese market.

"Paper Mario RPG," which follows the adventures of Mario and his friends who have become as fluffy paper, is doing well. This week it sold 19,180 units, bringing its total sales to 168,833 units, making it the top-selling title for the third week in a row.

From 2nd and below, we see the “regulars” including Animal Crossing, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Minecraft and the noteworthy were the Super Mario Party, and Mario Party Super Stars ranked 7th and 9th respectively.

These are the 11th and 12th console titles in the "Mario Party" series, which offers a variety of mini-games. Although the former was released in 2018 and the latter in 2021, they are still popular among many users and can be expected to continue to sell well. Super Smash Bros Special ranked it at 8th , making a total of 6 titles featuring characters from the Super Mario series.

Nintendo Switch continues to sell stably, and has reached an install-base of over 33 million units across the Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite, and the OLED model in Japan alone.

“Paper Mario RPG” continues to sell well with 34,004 copies sold during the reporting period, and over 14,000 units sold cumulatively to return to 1st place 2 weeks in row. As a remake of the original game released in 2004 on the Game Cube, Paper Marios RPG improves the game on various levels, including the graphics and game mechanics, leading to an optimistic outlook on the sales of the game.

For 2nd place and below, we see the “regulars” including Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Animal Crossing and Super Smash Bros Special all ranking in. And Stellar Blade, the SIE funded title developed by Shift Up has ranked in at 5th place.

Another new title is Tokyo Psychodemic ranking in at 7th place. In this game, players use authentic forensic tools and collaborate with friends to unravel the mysteries of paranormal incidents. The director of this title, Shuuho Imai, is known to have directed both “Tokyo Majin Gakuen Denki” series and “Kowloon High-School Chronicles”.

As always, Nintendo Switch continues to be the dominant platform for Japan, as Stellar Blade is the only non-Nintendo Switch title that managed to make it into the top 10.
